    M1 Carbine

    So I'm looking into buying an M1 carbine, aside from having a 10 round mag are they legal to own in original GI configuration?

          Currently yes. However, if SB 374 becomes law they would be classified as "assault weapons" along with most semiautomatic rifles and they could no longer be purchased or transferred in California after the law goes into effect. So if you want one don't wait.
          Revolvers are not pistols

                      They are perfectly legal to use 10+ round mags in (ie 15 and 30 round magazines).

                      (The assumption, of course, is that you legally acquired the standard cap mags).
                      Urban legends are a poor basis for making public policy.

                                  Glad I got mine years ago , even have one converted to bolt action ( waiting on new laws )

                                  It was converted for use in Pennsylvania because they aren't , and haven't been able to hunt with semi autos for decades and my Grand Father got it for hunting .

                                      Make sure you only get a USGI carbine (any manufacturer below) and not a commercial carbine.

                                              I bought a carbine. In came with a California approved 5 round magazine. I felt so inadequate.
