Hakim...Egypt's First Home Made Battle Rifle

Hi Gunners, finally able to post after 2 days of time outs,

I just throughout an "I'll take it" on a very nice Hakim rifle ammo and bayo package, thanks Willie Two Fingers. It's more or less a push on cost from a '69 Albanian SKS I recently moved. The market is kinda tough across the board for old iron these days but I'm still happy and have a nice '70 Alby left. The common SKS Euro rifles are nearing the prices they should be pulling considering how scarce they are.
Here's a couple crappy pictures of the Hakim. I can't nail down if it been humped, as issued or a MADDI refub (?) and it's just too clean to have seen action, looks new, in exceptional condition with minimal wear and bruising. It says 1971 but I thought that was past the production years and I can't decipher the Arabic script. The previous fella said it was a tack driver, Hakims in decent condition have a good reputation for accuracy. At any rate it's totally cool if kinda contraptiony in function. I can see how it'd crush your thumb PAX

Gunboards consensus is it is a 1961 MAADI refurb, based mainly on the staking screws being fixed with black wire, fresh stamped factory mag, stock refinished. It's stamped "1971" but the 7 is 6 in Arabic. No refurbed marks are used by the factory. PAX

Unusual to find them in such great condition. Nice score! Love the action on these things, but yes, thumb crusher for sure. Makes you jump the first time that bolt goes forward!

        Thanks s,
I've only seen 2 Hakims in the wild my entire gun life. The other one was local to me, looked pretty rough and missing a couple bits. It's been a couple years ago, but I thought I'd give it a chance, fortunately it was gone by the time I went back. The LGS was asking Russian SKS money for it. This unit is exceptionally clean, I'm stocked. PAX.

Nice Hakim. Make sure you get a gas adjustment tool. If the adjustable port is completely closed, the gas will blow your hat off. You will usually find plastic adjustment tools, but they are junk. Take a look at the link below. A guy in Spokane makes/sells stainless steel versions. They work great.

Thanks for the tool lead. I'm going to try to fab one out of 9/32 six-point socket and save the ducats for ammo, PAX

I have several Hakims. If you hand load, mine likes the 200 gr Nosler Custom Competition with 44 grs of IMR 4064

Homegrown? Isn't just an 8mm version of the Swedish Ljungman AG 42 ?

The AG42 Ljungman was a Swedish semiautomatic rifle used during World War 2. It used a direct gas impingement system and tilting bolt.

I got one, Got Hakim thumb with it and screamed like a little girl - that thing draws blood!!!!!!!!

Thing blew oil on my face too when i shot it. It has been in my safe - silent - for over thirty years.

Of course not really 'home grown'. They got the design and tooling from the Swedish. It's a copy of the Ljungman that was chambered in 6.5 Swedish. Still a great rifle. I have one and love to shoot it. I just keep all appendages out of the way of that bolt!!

As for adjusting the gas valve, mine is set almost to the bottom limit. Before I did that, it would almost destroy the brass and throw it six counties away.

Yep you must remember to engage the safety before loading

Didn't have YouTube videos warning me back in the 80's. Damn thing brought tears to my eyes as well. Bought if off that Century Arms ad off the back page of Shotgun News.
