Great thread. I read this thread to get an understanding of the paper work and process. Sent all forms by certified mail 1/19/2012, so lets see how long it takes.

Sent my app in on November 21, 2011. Charged the card about 3 weeks later, being processed as of January 10th-ish. Hope this hurries up already, I'm tired of waiting. -.-

Do not sign the original. Never sign the original. Make a bunch of copies. You sign each copy before you use it. Your signature on the copy certifies that copy.

Yes. There is a thread around here that lists most of the places to which you should send a signed copy of your FFL. (edit, it's actually a sticky here at the top of the forum, titled The Ongoing C&R Vendor Report. It has a bunch of vendors you can send your FFL to and links to other list of vendors to send your FFL to.)

It's also a good idea to include a cover letter with the signed copy of your FFL that goes something like..

                To Whom It May Concern:

Enclosed please find a signed copy of my Type 03, Curio and Relics, Federal Firearms License. Please keep this on file so that we may do business in the future. Also, if you would please send me a copy of your latest catalog, or discounts and sales flyers, as well as place me on the mailing list for the same, I would be most appreciative.

                Sincerely,
and then include your name, address, phone number and email address.

and then include your name, address, phone number and email address.
And userID or order numbers of any previous orders to tie your online account to the 03 so the discounts will be automatic (with some vendors like Midway).

And remember who you sent them to because you'll be doing this every 3 years

Credit Card was charged today. 1/25/2012. Not bad, less than a week since I mailed out the application.

Well after months of waiting I finally received my C&R last Friday while I was in Oregon. I sent my application back in September but due to my own stupidity forgetting to include my SSN I had to make several calls to have it sent back and make corrections .

I sent out my copy to MidwayUSA about 15 minutes ago and had a response within 10 minutes saying I now have a dealer account there. Sent another to Brownell's and waiting to see if they are as fast!

I decided I should just scan my FFL into a PDF and then my all in one printer said "@#$#$#@$" and decided to take a dump....... Oh well will continue the process after I get that figured out.

But its nice to have finally received it.... Just in time to move and have to change the address

Heya question here for ffl03 holders:

what happens if you leave the state (no longer a resident)? Wife and I might be jumping ship soon and I have 1year left on my current license. Is there any decommission process or just a quiet nod and a wave as i leave? thanks in advance

you need to inform ATF, either to surrender your FFL or amend it to reflect the new locations.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

If i surrender it does that make me inelligible to receive again ? Also - ( I guess here's where I'm unsure ) - when you say the ATF do you mean the CABATF or is there a separate body. Thanks I really appreciate this

no, AFAIK, you should be able to turn in your FFL stating that you are moving and would rather start up new once you get settled.

not sure what CA would have to do with this. ATF=BATF=BATFE, the federal agency who you requested the 03FFL from and who issued it to you.

Thank you so much. I never had the opportunity to use my FFL03 ( family and savings first - economy has been tough ) so I'm glad to hear I can surrender it temporarily until we are re-situated. Thanks again for the assistance.
