    Brazilian Mauser Collection

The older rifles like the 1908 seemed to go all over the place. I have a Oberndorf 1908 and it was my first Mauser. It came to me heavily sanded with a bad bore and parkerized bits. I ended up taking the rifle down and re-bluing parts and trying to restore it because the rifle had sentimental value and I could not bare to sell it. I've tried to sell it in the past and then always chickened out because I love it so much.

I've seen the scrubbed kind like Mustang's where the removal of the numbers was done very nicely, but I have also seen really bad scrubs that were pretty damn ugly. If I remember correctly, there was a department store in New York in the 50's and 60's that imported a ton of them (including Chilean Mausers) in various forms to sell them for hunting builds. They offered some restocked with a sporter stock and some just standard military rifles with scrubbed receivers. You could buy what you wanted and smiths really just wanted the actions, so it was nice they didn't have the crests on them. Not sure why they scrubbed the bolt too but that might have been due to some import issues and the bolts getting mixed up.

Edit: Seems scrubbed for sale here by department store does make sense. They left Tt marking which would be part of the original serial number. Looked like a Tr to me but I am told it is a poorly stamped Tt. Model 1904 were sold to El Salvador.

Are there any markings on the wood or elsewhere? Do any of them match each other?

Yes except for the bolt, the numbers match.
