    K98 make/model for registration

    Just acquired a K98 mauser (bnz 42) from out of state. What would be the correct make & model to be reported on form BOF961 for state registration?
    Thanks in advance.

    bnz was the mfg code for

    bnz =Steyr Daimler-Puch, of Steyr Germany between 1941-44

    The "42" was year of mfg.

    Model would be [k98]

      Model = Mauser K98k.

      I would argue the serial number (for US proof of ownership purposes) is BNZ 42 "letter prefix" then "number."

      Anything less is not unique, there are numerous repetitions of the same number, and I'm paranoid some lawful gun owner is going to get his "M 4937" Mauser confiscated when some other guy with an "M 4937" Mauser reports it stolen.

      Regards,

        Would this be correct:
        Make: Mauser/Steyr Daimler-Puch
        Model: Karabiner Model 98

          Yes, I've even shortened mine to K98k without issue. Don't be surprised if they change your make or abbreviate it when you get your confirmation form back.

                I can almost assure you they will. The state reg. requirements don't delve into the pablum of factory codes or other such minutiae associated with your C&R guns.
