you mean the wylde chamber? http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_4/561189_.html
As far as downsides, I would not count on it shooting ****ty steel cased ammo well, if at all. Everything else it should shoot fine. Its more of an accuracy chamber rather than a battle rifle "shoots everything" barrel. In my experience at least...Last edited by evolixsurf; 01-03-2014, 11:08 PM.Comment

It fits between a 556 and Wylde... but since there's no hard spec posted anywhere, it's hard to say.
The SAM-R chambers comes from the SAM-R project that's trying to replace the DMR rifle in the USMC. The precision shop out of Quantico is testing a batch of these SAM-R rifles in the wild and the barrel for these rilfes are 20" 1:7 SS match barrel out of Compass Lake Engineering. Not sure if the spec is anywhere online but this match barrel use a tighter 556 chamber, but not a commercial chamber like the Wylde. From what I've heard... it's still looser than the Wylde chamber because it needs to functions 100% with current mil-spec 556 ammo in inventory.
IMHO, you want a flexible precision rifle in 556, go with a Wylde chamber. While I love BCM, I think the SAM-R chamber is another selling point... nothing that a Wylde chamber doesn't already do for the commercial market.
