Isn't it just for FFL's that are shipping? Can't non-dealer individuals still ship into California?

From what I gather, yes. Individuals can still ship to CA FFL's no problem from what I understand.

Ok. Lets shine some light here. Many people in CA just buy a rifle on Gunbroker FROM A SHOP say in Washington. Have it shipped to an FFL here and thats it. Thats one situation. Now, say a person ( not a shop) wants to sell their Sako rifle with Leupold scope on Gunbroker. I buy it. CAN THEY SHIP IT TO MY FFL? If the answer is Yes. Things are not too bad. The best deals and the most interesting guns on internet come form private sellers. Thats been the case for me for the last 5 years.

Yes. That shop just has to get a PERMIT to sell to a CA FFL. They fill out the form, put down the new permit number that will be required for CA shops (and they will not be giving those to INDIVIDUALS in CA, just to SHOPS) of the store here they are shipping to, and DOJ will FAX them the approval to send the gun. Gun distributors and Manufacturers are already complying. It will only effect small out of state shops that don't want to jump through the tiny hoop (A fee involved?) and individuals out of state may have a harder time finding a store that will do the transfer for them.

The point of this new law, like all the others in CA, is to incrementally make it more and more of a PITA to buy and sell a gun, and eventually we'll just give up. Right? You guys ready to give up your guns yet?

Just bought a 7615 this morning and filled out my DROS.

In case the real import of this change is lost on youse: from the DOJ:

"California FFL holders (other than Type 03 or 06) must enroll in the California Firearms Licensee Check (CFLC) Program to ship firearms to another California FFL. They must also be listed on the State of California Centralized List as either a dealer, manufacturer, or exempt. Once enrolled in CFLC, California FFLs will be able to obtain Firearms Shipment Approval letters to ship firearms to other FFL holders within the state.

A CA FFL must provide an FFL shipper with his or her five digit Centralized List number so that the shipper can obtain a Firearms Shipment Approval letter from the Bureau of Firearms."

The words that should be making you worry are "Centralized list"
The STATE will now know who is shipping guns to whom, when that was formerly a FEDERAL issue.

I AM a buying fool (check my posts) just ordered Springfield XD-45 today too. Look, more form the DOJ --
"As of July 1, 2008, California Penal Code Section 12072(f)(1) [PDF 30 kb / 1 pg] prohibits all Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs), other than Type 03 or 06 FFLs, from shipping firearms to an FFL in California unless, prior to delivery, the FFL intending to deliver, sell or transfer the firearms obtains a verification approval number from the California Department of Justice (CADOJ) Bureau of Firearms. This includes transfers that occur at gun shows."

Guns shows? How can out of state dealers KNOW in advance what guns will be transferred? They'll stop going to shows or refusing to sell to CA buyers. This is bad -- just another baby step on our graves.

You guys still don't get it. Your gun supply is not going to dry up and gun stores are not going to go out of business. I don't buy my guns from gunbroker. I don't buy them from a kitchen table FFL out of state. I buy them from wholesalers. Wholesalers will compy with this and they will keep sending in the guns.

The only impact this is going to have is you will not be able to get your guns as cheap and easy as you used to. That is it. My business is going to keep on going, if not get better.

Absolutely! LEGIT gunstores will flourish! It's just any law of this type has a cumulative effect -- more laws followed by more laws -- it's the fact that FFLs now need that piece of paper -- easy to get now -- that once it's part of the deal the fee for getting it could become ANYTHING and you'd have to pay it. That's all.

Just means more business for Buds Gun Shop and other FFLs who are willing to take the extra 5 minutes to visit a website, enter some info, print a piece of paper and ship it with the gun.

This new law is idiotic, but I don't see why some of these FFLs are all in a tizzy. Unless I'm misunderstanding the procedure, what is the BFD?

Guns will continue to GO UP in price due to stores knowing they are the only ones who can get them.......

It's good to be a exempt FFL.

I still had to get a number.
