Those are actually marks left/made by the drill that removed the center of the BCG. I've drilled millions of holes (at least it seems like it), and usually have the same effect. The material that is used fir BCG's is usually a pretty tough alloy and consequently the chips that come off the drill are even harded, hence the deep scratches and slightly galled looking areas. The process of drilling out the BCG can vary as much as there are manufactures. Sometimes the drill may be not as sharp as the 1st 20 parts it drilled, and will not leave quite a nice of finish. It's really no big deal for function. The only way to avoid this situation, which any of the machinists know here on our forum, its to "pre-drill" the part undersize and then run a boring bar through it. This adds unecessary expense to the part. Hope this make ya feel better about your BCG, I'm sure it's a good one! Armacc Precision

Les Baer BCG wear markings on inner area behind firing pin?

It looks to me like it was bored with a dull tool bit or the feed was to fast or both. As the other posters have pointed out it won't effect the performance as that hollow space is...just a hollow space. If that were the area that the bolt fits into then it will wear the gas rings a little faster.
If it bothers you then send Les an e-mail with the same picture. I'm sure they'll say to send it back and a replacement will be on it's way.I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...
