It's the only AK I ever built, it shoots great and it's one of my favorite rifles,
because I built it (with some good coaching). I parked it, I built it, I seated the barrel, riveted the receiver, probably the most fun gun thing I've ever done, it's very gratifying to build a rifle rather just assemble a rifle, although assembling ARs is fun.

AKs are great, fun to shoot, but with the ammo situation, I am just shooting up what remaining Golden Tiger and Wolf I have laying around so I don't shoot it often. I have some Brass cased Arsenal ammo but that stuff cost a fortune. The AK was never an accurate rifle but it's fun and part of the
fun was shooting cheap Eastern Bloc spam can ammo. Now that that mil-surp ammo no longer exists, at least for America, AKs kind of lost a lot of their fun factor for taking to the range. Every time I shoot up more of my ammo stash, which is dwindling down, I think about what it would cost me to replace it since I bought it all when 7.62x39 was cheap and available.
I've got so much Russian/Wolf 7.62x39, that I put cases of it in antique furniture and art pieces that are tall and narrow, in order to create a heavy base and low center of gravity to keep them from tipping over too easily.

It hides the ammo out of sight, but then leaves ammo accessible all over my properties in case of need, with nobody being the wiser.

I saw the writing on the wall a number of years ago and bought a lot of it when the prices started to creep up. I'm in no danger of running out for a while.

I still have about 1,000 rounds of 7.62x39, 340 of which are Ulyanovsk 8M3 "fragtastic" 124 grn HP with pre-fail cuts inside the jacket. NASTY stuff! IMG-1004-2-121891.jpg

Somehow, I have accumulated over 2,000 rounds of 30 Carbine, about a third of which is Remington soft point. I just got into the habit through the years of grabbing some whenever I found it cheap. My .22LR, 5.56, 9mm, and .380, I keep about 1,000 each.
