Red Dot Placement?

As written previously, I purchased a Ruger PC.

Recently I bought (and received) a Sig Sauer Romeo MSR Red Dot Gen II for it.

My question is, where to mount it?

Umm I'd mount it on top of the firearm . Seriously, as far forward as comfortable where target acquisition is quick.

Trial and error... start with it near the back of the receiver and give it a try. You don't need to tighten it down, just place it, see how you like it, and maybe try moving it forward a little bit, until you find what seems good to you. I have a similar RDS with the base locked down about 5 or 6 notches on the rail from the rear end of the receiver. Seems good to me...

On that rifle, I’d put it somewhere between the charging handle (forward) and the ejection port.

I have red dots on several lever guns now, as well as a Ruger American Gen2 in 7.62x39 (what a perfect little lightweight fast accurate compact cheap to shoot combo that is for everything to 200 yards!). I typically like them just forward of the breech so they're quick to acquire and I can still carry the gun by just grabbing the receiver.

On my Ruger PC 9mm I have the dot as far forward on the receiver as possible, just above the ejection port.

All the way to the end of the receiver. Not the forearm or you risk changing zero constantly.

Red dot placement is usually a personal preference thing, since eye relief is not really an issue. I like having the optic as far forward on the receiver as possible. If you shoot with a target focus and lead with your eyes during transitions, you’ll probably prefer the dot to be all the way forward, too. If you like to focus more on the dot while shooting, you might liked having the dot back closer to your eyes. Put the optic on your gun and tighten it just enough to prevent it from falling off, and then try different positions on the receiver to see what you like best.

I have my Aimpoint C3 mounted to the rear of a AR reciever. You get better accuracy with increased distance from the front site post.

I also have a crosshair sight post. That also helps a lot.

The closer the optic is to your eye, the wider the field of view through the optic. This is important if you run and gun and have hard leans where you don't have a good index on the gun.

The further away the optic is from your eye, the more it looks like a dot in the tube, and the dot size increases relative to the optic opening.
