Thanks, it was a mix of 9 colors consisting of Krylon Camo and Rustoleum "Painter's Touch". Each color is more of a blend of several colors rather than just a single color. Took about an hour total work (prep, tape, and paint) and has been holding up well.

I do not have the budget to replace the stock. I would like to get some feedback from shooters that use the out of the box set up. Does the stock touching the barrel effect accuracy?

          Thanks for the advice.
Honestly free float has been way over advertised. It helps ALOT but some people act like a rifle can not shoot if its not free floated... The rifle shoots just fine and free floating a barrel doesn't make it go from 2MOA to .5MOA.. At most it changes it from 1MOA to .5 MOA on a good day..

The SPS T stock is decent not amazing but not crap. But it works. Get a good hand load or good ammo and you can shoot out to about 600 with decent groups.

The rifle will probably out shoot you. Buy the rifle.. shoot it then upgrade when you get bored with your rifle.. And when you upgrade I doubt you will ever notice the change of it after you do because your flinch.. wind.. and mechanics will have way more of a factor in the shot than the free float will.

Buy the rifle then go shoot it. IF it does not preform MOA or better get the stock upgraded and then you should be gtg in shoot MOA or better all day long.

Stockystocks seems like they have the best price on the net. Anyone ordered from them?

Lots of people order from them. They are good to go.

I got mine from http://www.redhawkrifles.com/ for $199 about a year ago.
Ask for Dick Churchley. He's a real nice guy and gave me a great deal. Had my stock shipped same day as I ordered as well.

I have a 700 SPS Varmint in 243. that I picked up about 2 months ago. The rifle shoots well, but it is no .5 MOA out of the box. I have another .243, Savage 110 that will consistently out shoot the 700, getting an easy sub .5 MOA, old synthetic stock and all. Hell, even my old 30-30 bolt guns can out shoot the 700. The 700 has a lot more potential to shoot well, but it will take some help.

                        Just my thoughts.
                        Updated

Just got back from the range after replacing the stock on the 700 sps Varmint. Big difference. Now it is a sub .5 MOA weapon. On the Varmint, the stock is the limiting factor. Went from the Remington stock to a Boyd laminated varmint stock, no added bedding, just drop in and ready to shoot. Interested to see what it will do with a properly bedded action.

                        Cheers
                        Vern

SMK or AMAX bullets, it doesnt care..Varget to rl15 to 4064 , it doesnt matter. Shoots better than my 4000.00 bolt gun so, get the idea that they cant or dont shoot that good out of the boxright outta your head.
The key is the trigger (unless you're getting an aftermarket) Remmie VSSF in 223 came with a great trigger, at 100 yards .24 inch five shot groups with Rem. Match ammo. Sometimes they just shine.

I ordered my A2 from them. It was the best price I could find and other than having to wait a month because it was backordered I had no issues with them

From what I have heard most issues with non floating barrels is mostly to do with wood stocks that swell up with heat or moisture putting excess pressure on the barrel, which isn't an issue with the synthetic stocks
