    Choosing an EOtech

I've been going back and forth on brands for a few months now but I think I've chosen EOtech finally as my next purchase. I keep seeing the EOtech 512 as the cheapest sight they make, but also very highly rated. I found a low mounting Saiga rail but need to figure out is the 512 the best suited for that or is a smaller unit more desirable?

Whatever you do, do it quick and get in on Exile's groupbuy that ends at the end of this month.

I'd love to get in on the group buy but I actually dont get paid for this for another week :/. I'm just planning out what I'm buying early in February. I was using optics planet as a reference.

They are all similar. All comes down to what you want.

Reticle, Size/Weight, Side or Rear buttons, battery type etc.

I got in on that group buy.... swipe swipe goes the credit card.

I really like this one: 512.A65/1

The idea of AA batteries just makes a whole lot of sense. I really like the idea of taking spare batteries for my sights out of a TV remote.

Yea, as I went on there site and optics planet it seemed like there was an absolute ton of models and it just threw me off. I really dont mind the biggest versions unless it cost more. I figure they look better and hold more batteries/battery life. I'm looking for the cheapest ones that will take the good type of batteries (C123) I think. I'm not going to go down the whole AA battery route with these as I can tell it probably eats batteries quick.

Oh and I did find the XPS2. http://www.opticsplanet.net/eotech-t...ible-xps2.html.

Do you guys get the whole dovetail thing that it comes at with the 370 price? Is that going to make it unusable with my Saiga?

Did you mention Saiga? Hate to say it since you've already settled on Eotech, but on an AK pattern rifle I think you're probably better off with an optic like the Aimpoint H-1/T-1 which can mount super low.

I see. My local shop has a Aimpoint comp 3 or one of the those nice models in for like 390ish. You think it'd work better than a Holographic?

X2. I own (1) 512 & a pair of 552 and love them just for the sole reason of the AA battery. Readily available so you can replenish easily. The 512 is perfect and priced right for the consumer, especially if you don't own a set of $2k+ night vision goggles.

                        I ran a 512 on a AK for a bit.
Biggest problem is they are meant to cowitness on a AR, so as others mentioned they sit high.
Most of the lower mounting options you find for AKs are meant for aimpoint micro style.

In most cases, you're going to need something of a cheek riser

On the other hand, I've got two Eotech 512's and love em.

The 512 is excellent, and +1 on the AA batteries being a big positive.
Not sure how that works on an AK though. I've seen lots do it, but not in person.

I love my Eotech 517! And it is not that heavy.

I run an Eotech on my WASR, but as the picture showed, I needed to use a cheek riser to get behind it well. If I was going to mount anything on a low-mount on a Saiga/AK style rifle, I'd look in to picking up one of the $299 silver Micro Aimpoints they got at Midway if they still have any.
