I'm looking to get a mini red dot to go on top of a 14.5" BCM carbine and I'm thinking about the Primary Arms Micro Dot (Gen 2) or the iTAC RDS1. Normally the iTAC is more expensive but I found it for sale for the same price as the PA. Which one would you prefer? Anyone have any experience with either or?

Those are pretty cheap. I would go with the sig version in that style or the burris fastfire II which I have piggy backing my high mag scope.

Just a heads up about those dots also. They WILL lose their ability to get zero if they even can. Also, everytime you take your gun out, you will have to re-zero and the sight just won't last or hold upComment

You must have had a really cheap sight or a poor mount if this was happening. A QUALITY red dot sight will not lose zero by turning it on/off or by transporting it to a range. Many people put fastfires on a dovetailed sight on 1911's and they hold up to the thing hammering back and forth to the slide slamming home. There is no way it should be re-zeroed after every trip.Comment

The iTAC is made by the same manufacturer as the Sig Sauer STS-081. The Sig has a retail price on Sig's website of $215. The iTAC has a retail (on it's website) of $230 but I found it on sale for $79. If I found the Sig on sale for that price, I'd would include that one in my list as well.Comment

Then go with the gen 3 atleast or the sigComment

I cant help but think the manufacturer of the SIG dot is the same as the PA dots.
The PA dots are OUTSTANDING for the money btw.
Anybody who says they dont hold zero is probably just another talking head on the internet who doesent have one.The California Moderate Centrist Militia member in exile

I think it's probably safe to assume that most of the current micro red dots on the market that are not actually made by Aimpoint are likely all manufactured in the same factory in China, or at the very least with components all made in the same factory in China. Sig, iTac, Bushnell, PA, etc. Probably all the same except for some external variations requested by the parent company. I'd say go with the Primary Arms red dot and call it good. They have a good reputation, and stand behind their product pretty well. FWIW I have one of the PA gen 2 blemish red dots on my wifes AR, and it has never needed to be re zeroed after it's initial sight in several range trips ago.U.S. Navy (Retired) 1994-2015Comment

Owned it, it sucked and failed to hold zero after around 300 or 400 .223 rounds. Under $100 on OPTICS??? $20 under no less? Yea my head "talks" but about MY experience. Buy it, and... well.. see how it works for youComment
