RAW and NFA -- 2 questions

If you have a RAW, is it legal to put whatever upper you want on it?

If you have a registered fully auto M-16 (in a state that allows it, of course), is it legal to put whatever upper you want on it?

    thanks in advance,

it is legal to put what ever upper you wish, provided that you do not make an NFA item out of it. So, if the RAW is a rifle,, you can't go below 16" barrel length, or end up below 26" OAL with the rifle in its shortest fireable configuration, you have violated federal and/or state SBR laws.

yes. however, if you went over .50" in bore diameter, it might trigger DD status. IIRC, NFA law is wierd in that sometimes MG trumps DD and other times DD trumps MG. But forgetting possible DD issues, MG trumps SBS and SBR, so you can go any length barrel an OAL with a registered MG.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?
