I used the Rit-Dye method, and it turned out GREAT! This is what the wood looked like prior to the project:

Now this is what you need to do:
1) Set the furniture in a plastic tub or something you won't mind getting rid of. Paste the wood with any liquid wood stain remover (I used Kleen strip). Let sit for one hour to remove old stain.
2) Take a plastic scraper and remove all the old stain. Afterword, use a scotch brite pad and a little water to remove the remaining crud.
3) Let the wood dry for a couple of hours or use a blow dryer on low heat to dry it faster. After this, you are ready to sand.
4) Sand lightly with sandpaper in this order until all scratches are gone: 60, 100, 150, 220. Be sure to sand with the grain direction of the wood.
5) Use a clean cloth to remove any debris left on the wood. You are now ready to use the Rit Dye. For this you will need these rit-dye colors: Scarlet, Golden Yellow, and Dark Brown. You can buy them at RiteAid or Walgreens. Put all three colors in seperate cups (if you get the powder Rit Dye you will have to mix the powder with 2cups of hot water).
6) Now to get the same color I ended up with on my furniture, you will have to mix all of the rit dye colors into one cup: I used one part scarlet, one part yellow, a splash of brown, and 3 parts rubbing alcohol. The alcohol will help the dye dry faster. If you want your furniture less red, then use less red. If you want more brown, use more brown, etc. Mix the colors together in one cup and test a small spot on a hidden part of the stock. The test spot will be the brightest the color can be and you will be able to lessen the brightness later by using steel wool '0000'.
7) After the rit dye has dried completely, use the steel wool to buff the rough dye out of the wood. If you buff lightly, the wood will be brighter and fuller. If you buff more, the wood will be less bright. You may buff the wood more if you want a more brown like finish. If you want your furniture to look like mine, lightly buff the furniture.
8) Now it is time to use Deft gloss clear wood spray to give the furniture a nice shine and protect the dye/wood. Spray an even coat (but not too heavy because it can become runny) and let dry. Spray one or two more coats and your done!
9)Install furniture and smile!
