Let me first say-I do not live in Ca. So compliancy isnt a big thing for me where I am at. I wanted to make sure I threw that out since I know you guys are super restricted with AR stuff in Ca.
CalGunners, I have a love for AR's just like 1911's. Recently, I started going through my bench and literally found a lower that I must have bought during the panic.
Anyway, I have every AR configuration that is thinkable so, there is no "need" for any specific build. My initial thought was to buy super light parts and assemble a little carbine. As I started shopping for used parts... I came across several deals that were so good, it only made sense to buy them. In addition to that, I had some other parts that I have either swapped out or moved in different directions...
Looks like as it sits I have two options in front of me. I can make an 18" SPR or stick with the original plan of LW Carbine.
Lower is fully assembled and is set to be made into the carbine (for the most part). I did get a Luth AR fixed stock though... I also came across an 18" WOA barrel that I literally stole as part of a package deal. The 13" MWI LW Rail isnt ideal for the barrel.
I can either sell the barrel, and buy a 14.5 LW barrel or buy a new rail and swap out the stock and buffer to make the SPR.
Again, I need another AR like I need a hole in the head... I have several of both types of configuration, as well as AR's up to 28" barrels and all the way down to 10" pistols. So again, there is no specific need.
The WOA barrel is very nice, so I am almost compelled to try to swap rails with someone for a 15".
Personally, thinking it makes most sense given what I have here is to just do the SPR (esp with the optic).
I did want honest thoughts from the group though?
As it sits right now, here is the parts list:
Lower (generic lower)
QMT Trigger
RR LPK
Vltor A5 Tube and Buffer
CTR Stock/Luth Stock
18" WOA SPR Barrel
MWI LW 13" M-Lock Rail
Giessele Gas Block
Lantac Dragan Break
Leupold VX-R Zombie Rifle 1.25-4x 20mm optic.
Total invested in this would probably be
$300 bucks to this point (I am not joking). Some parts that are not counted in terms of price is stuff that has just been sitting on my work bench for years.
