    Bipod selection for 100-800m shooting

I'm liking for a bipod for my Remington 700 LTR .308 for shooting up to 800m. I'd like to be able to shoot prone AND from the bench, and I'm unsure what height bipod would be best. When would a 9-13" bipod be preferable over a 6-9"?

How does this look for my purposes?

Look at the Atlas. I have the one you posted in the link and the Atlas. Love them both. Both have pros and cons. But, with what you said in your post, the Atlas is the way to go. The legs lock in different angles front and back. It also cants. You can set the legs at different lenghts if your bench isn't level. Basically it will allow you to set your rifle at whatever height and angle you need for a given task. It's well worth the money. My 2 cents.
Knives don't stab people, cars don't drive drunk, eating utensils don't make you fat and pencils don't mis-spell words.

Part of it depends on your stock and what it will take. The Harris you linked in 6-9 will most likely be the most cost effective, easy to mount, and meet your needs. That one is nothing special, but it is economical and versatile, and it isn't overly cheap to the point it will snap like a twig. Get that one, then think about a more specialized bipod if the situation warrants.

Should I get a PodLock as well? I've seen them recommended pretty universally, but I'm notclear on whether they allow easier attachment/detachment of the entire bipod itself (which wouldn't help me really), or if it allows easier locking and unlocking of the swivel function of the bipod (which seems handy so you don't have to bring tools to change theangle of the bipod). I think it's the latter, but the description I read wasn't clear so I would like confirmation before purchasing.

Use your backpack/ gear bag prone, a sand bag on the bench, it would be more accurate than using that Harris,
You seriously thinking of 800 yds?
800yds on a 308 is doable, but for the great majority brings great difficulty,
I usually dont go over 400 yds with any of my 308, never over 500, when ballistics starts to play havoc with the projectile. I havent practiced shooting over 500 much, I would just use a magnum caliber.

            Bipod selection for 100-800m shooting

The Harris S-BRM is the one you need.

The only time I use a 9-13 is on some props or when I'm on a downhill slope shooting across a canyon at targets above me.

The podlock is to lock the swivel feature off so the rifle is more stable.

              800 meters ?
              maybe this one.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

if you've never used an atlas, it takes getting used to. there is some play in the atlas bipod that i personally do not like. I do like how you can adjust the legs inward, making them very useful on barricades or positions where you have limited space to rest your rifle on while still using some sort of rear bag support.

But, I cant help but think that I can buy (2) Harris S-BRM 6-9 inch with podlock's on them plus keep money in the bank for the price of (1) atlas bipod though. Make sure you get the notched version also. This will be all you need.

well...you got your priorities in line

save the money, buy a nice barrel like a bartlein or krieger get it chambered by a good smith, spend the rest of your money on the optic, then, go custom action like a defiance, surgeon, or stiller. Make sure your barreled action is properly set in your stock (bedded action or v-block system, and free floated).

buy a nice rear bag and if you are not already using one and handload to get the most out of your rifle's accuracy.

Had an Atlas on my last 1000 yard target build and didn't like it. It pre load feeling funny and was too slow to deploy. Use Harris 3-9 BRMS with the notched legs only. Sold the Atlas to some AR 15 guy for what I paid for it.
