Scope base question

Here is what canted scope rings look like. Marvin Pearson also makes some very nice rings as does Kelbly and Jewel. They also make them with a Davidson dovetail so they are very adjustable.
If you want to swap scopes out this is one of the easiest set ups made.
The gun in the picture is a sleeved Remington with the Davidson flat top bases. For a Remington short 700 you would need 1.350 round bases so they fit the contour of the action. The last picture is the Burris signature tactical rings. They are on my 338 SnipeTac which runs 140 grains of powder under a 300 grain bullet. They have live centers in them like Jewel rings and depending on the spacing they go to 40+ MOA. Don't worry about aluminum versus steel you can always add a third ring.
A set up like this won't win you any major Benchrest matches anymore but it's good enough to make you a high master at Sacramento or a killer varmint rifle.Last edited by LynnJr; 12-25-2016, 8:28 AM.Leave a comment:

I don't use rings, I use mounts like the Nightforce you linked. I personally use Accuracy International mounts or ERA-Tac. The AI mounts are like their magazines. They are no frills, but really good for only about $170.
See below, for a long range rifle, I have an adjustable inclination one-piece mount. I have it set to 70 MOA, so you can actually see the scope tilt down a bit. For 308, most just use 20 MOA as it generally gets the job done with most rifle and scope setups. Also, with a 308, you don't need much more than 12 mils of elevation from a 100 yard zero.

So, seekins, badger, and tps, are there any other brands I should be looking at?
And what height rings should I be getting? If I half the objective, that's 22mm, so I've been looking at heights in the .9"-1" rangeLeave a comment:

That's good info, thank you for that. Hopefully whichever rifle/base combo I get won't be too bad so bedding won't be too terribly dramatic.http://www.murphyprecision.com/Page/Scope_Base_Bedding
Bedding isn't absolutely necessary though in my opinion.
My earlier question still stands, though: Aluminum or Steel Base?Last edited by jrpowell3; 10-27-2016, 4:57 PM.Leave a comment:

So, tps 20moa picatinny base and rings it is.
Should I go steel or aluminum? Also, on that SWFA site, should I be looking at any other manufacturers besides TPS and Badger?Last edited by jrpowell3; 10-27-2016, 9:16 AM.Leave a comment:

The $20 vortex rings appear to be Chinese extruded rings.
Probably the same ones sold by Burris and most airsoft vendors to hold an Aimpoint.
TPS/Badger are billet machined rings.Leave a comment:
