    My Daughter

My daughter called last week and said that she wants to buy a rifle to go hunting with her work friends. She said there was a sale going on at a local sporting good store. I told her not to buy one from there, and that I will get her one.

This week, I got her a Ruger M77 243 Winchester with Mannlicher stock. It was pretty cute, and I think it will fit her just fine. It looks like she is following my foot steps on job and hobbies. Hope she will get a nice buck with it.

Maybe one day, I will go hunting with her.

Good job. I've always fancied the full Mannlicher and 243 is a great little cartridge.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

It looks so cute, so I thought about keeping it myself. But, I have one of these in 30-06, so she gets the Ruger.

Excellent! Ya done right with that one!
I am blessed to have two teenagers that like to hunt as well. I bought each of them Ruger GSR's; the daughter really likes that little rifle.

                    Please remember

                    1) she needs a Firearms Safety Certificate (FSC)

                    2) she needs to fill out the OPLAW form after you hand her the gun.

If you're really into giving her a gift, fill out the OPLAW form for her and hand it to her with $20, and a stamped envelope addressed to DOJ as indicated on the form.

She is in another state. I don't know what is required in that state. I saw someone buys a gun at Cabela's and walk out with it the same day.

                        That's a different issue.

You can't give it to her directly either in CA or in her state - must go through an FFL, before she takes possession (i.e. she cannot take it to the FFL). Federal law calls a transfer between residents of different states 'interstate', no matter where the gun might be geographically.

For long guns, that's supposed to work in any state where the transfer would not violate the state laws of the giver/seller, buyer/receiver and the FFL state. In CA, it doesn't - CA requires a receiver be a CA resident, by way of how the DROS software is implemented.

The simple solution is let her buy the gun local to her, and send her the money. That's a bit late in this case.

I sent my daughter a .22 rifle via an FFL/sporting goods store in WA state. I just sent it myself via Fed Ex second day air to the store after contacting the store and giving them my daughter's contact info. I also included a letter that it was a father-daughter gift to avoid sales tax there. I think they charged $20 to handle the transfer to her.

Of course I will follow the law. I just said my daughter will get a decent rifle for Christmas.
