    SSE Help

Hi Guys, First post and in look of some guidance. I'm new to California and had a question regarding SSE and GunBroker.com. Can I buy a gun not on the Cal list of approved handguns off Gunbroker.com and have it shipped to a local shop that does SSE and Transfers? I Was going to call the shop tomorrow but don't want to wait for an answer and tired of searching for one. Thanks you guys for your help.

Gunbroker isn't where you want to go and handle SSE, maybe grabagun... You should view the Commercial Sales forum, talk to a few vendors on there.... There is about 1,000 threads, you should also read those... Even better read the first thread about SSE here on California Guns. You don't want to get troll on like I did, keep your head up brother.

Choose your only and last SSE wisely....

You may also run into problems with waiting for barrels this late in the game. some shops wont even accept transfers if they dont have enough barrels to get the job done/or would rather make money on using the barrels for theirs. You may have to call a few shops.

This is the first post http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=383692 , you need to read this like your bible, and then start figuring your route. Not to troll, but if you can own a gun, you can do the research yourself.... Best wishes on your search.. Feel free to PM if you get stuck, always here to help.

            Welcome Sir.

What make and model handgun are you considering.?

Our knowledge resources are deep and I sm sure plenty of people could tell you several FFLs that might have it in stock.

And, what part of the State do you live?

If you live in Socal I know OC Armory is quite helpful with SSE's, they don't seem to have a problem with extra barrels. That's who I'm currently using for my SSE's. I've bought both of my SSE pistols off Gunbroker, I would suggest to call the seller ahead of time and see if they ship to CA and are cool with sending in a off roster pistol. Everyone I've dealt with who ships to CA has no problem with it as they're familiar with the SSE.

I bought 1/2 my SSE's from gunbroker. So despite what others are saying, yes you can. Best check with your FFL first and see how much they will charge you though. Mine charges $70 for the transfer but SSE is free. So basically after shipping I can get it for whatever price on GB + about $100 (usually around $25-$30 to ship). Process has been easy for me. Purchase gun, then call the GB dealer or wait for them to call or email you. Give them your FFL's information and they ship it to them.

Thanks Justin and Sure Shot, did you have to pay tax on out of state firearms when the CA FFL did the transfer?

In the past few years I have purchased 3 guns from gun broker and used different FFLs. I had to pay tax on the item that the FFL collected. Some of them I also had to account for SSE and DROS. Sometimes it's easier ordering it locally. If you give the gun you're looking into and general location, a couple members might be able to help you out find a better deal or at least an easier transaction.

I think the rule on tax from out of state is, if the seller is in the business of firearms you have to pay tax, but if it is truly a private party seller then no tax. Your FFL can give you more info, I believe DOJ and/or BOE has provided written (but perhaps obscure) guidance on the subject.
