Am I the only one that finds that informative? In a panic you might forget where you are suppose to grip. Cant you just run a saudering*misspelled I'm sure* iron over it or something?

What is it about the grip safety that seems to raise hackles around here?
I've never had an issue with my 1911, don't even think about it.

I can't speak for anyone else but it does bother me quite a bit. Enough for me to not have much interest in owning it over, say, a Glock, M&P, VP9, etc. Just really redundant & unnecessary feature to me.

Don't care for it much on 1911's either but I'd definitely own a few flavors of them

One, it's completely obsolete and adds useless complication to the firearm.

Two, a few years ago a user on a different gun forum posted a very lengthy recounting of a CCW shooting that he was involved in. Cliff notes: He got into a gunfight with a burglar who broke into his home, he was shot by the burglar, and while he was able to draw his 1911 and acquire a sight picture on the burglar, he was too weak to depress the grip safety and the 1911 failed to fire.
