Semi Auto vs. Revolver Trigger pull weight

    I have a S&W 39.
    Pretty simple handgun.
I would like to buy a .357 revolver for my girlfriend.
Very simple to use, a great trainer.
My problem with the concept of the revolver for her is the Trigger Pull Weight.
This handgun will be strictly for self defense in the NW part of New Mexico where we plan on moving in the next few months.
Does anyone know how/what type of revolver that will not have the heavy trigger pull from the "hammer down" position?

Probably none of them from the factory.

Good luck with that. All are heavy but the Smiths are considered smoother than the rest. Maybe a performance center Smith would be in order.
Advise from an old guy---marry that girl before you move. It will make her feel much, much more secure unless she is the bread winner.
If she is worthy of moving with, she is certainly worthy of marriage.

For the best double action pull I would suggest a S&W K or L frame. Then have a gunsmith give it an action job. Out of the box the pull will be pretty heavy. After the work it feel lighter than it is. I like Hogue Bantam rubber grips.

This, that first long pull is there for a reason. Teach her to cowboy shoot and she should be fine

Dump all 6 from the hip and racking the hammer with her off hand

Average pull weight is about 7 to 9 lbs for the initial pull, and about 1 to 3lb for the hammer down.

Stock trigger pull weights on S&W revolvers are heavy. However, if you get an older K or L frame, they are undeniably smooth and have great tactile feel.

I have a 60's vintage S&W 15-3. This revolver has a silky smooth single action trigger pull, I've had it for more than 30 years and for a period in the beginning I could not hit accurately with it. Then I started experimenting with aftermarket grips. Bingo.

Someone with small hands may lack the leverage required to be comfortable pulling the trigger on a large or medium frame revolver.

If a small frame revolver and action job together with grips that fit don't work, then....

By the way here's a useful site.

How "big" a gun does she (you) want?

Try a Ruger LCR. They are DA only.

Or an SP101 for some all stainless steel action.

Still, the DA pull is, relatively speaking, long and heavy. Yet, my Sig and Beretta are not really any lighter than my GP100.
