Buying my first handgun - SSE - Gen 4

There is nothing wrong with the Gen3 you have. It's a fine gun. However, yes you could have had a Gen 4 with some extra costs for the conversion.

No mistake! gen3 is great design. But yes you can SSE a gen4 and convert it after DROS.

What is entailed in the conversion? Is it just a blocked magazine?

Block magazine and extended barrel. Nothing you need to worry about. A 07 FFL offering SSE does the conversion.

With that said, there's nothing wrong with the Gen 3. The Gen 4 generally demands a premium over the Gen 3 since there are a few hoops to jump through to get it. Whether or not it's worth the extra $$$ is up to you.

To start no, Gen3's are just as good as 4's. I own both and have no favoritism to either.


That said no you don't have to convert anything SSE is a 0 round mag and xx" barrel which is then replace by your LGS. All done for you and needed to be a SSE completed firearm. They sell you a SSE gun then before you go home with it they switch it back to a standard semi auto firearm. You shouldn't need to do/change anything. You just buy, sign and pay.

I prefer the ergos on the Gen 4.

Regarding SSE:
1. you don't need an 07 FFL
2. it will likely be gone Jan 1, 2015.

The current SSE procedures will be deemed illegal jan 1 2015 with out a VETO from Gov. B. Meaning no way to get "NEW" Off-roster guns anymore.

Also no new guns are being added either do to micro-stamping law.

My buddy bought a gen 4 glock recently he has zero experience with firearms but wanted one because he has a new family. He told me that when he bought it they had him walk out of the store on his pick up day and come right back inside and offered him "free gunsmithing." I never bought SSE but I guess that's how it works?

Free gunsmithing as in getting the original barrel for the gun and the mags that came with it.
