XDs or M&P Shield are still both great guns. Good luck on your search!
It has been said a number of times already, these small Kahrs have no safety mechanisms so they give them a longer trigger pull - in the interest of preventing negligent discharges.

They seem to have heavier recoil springs and so they are somewhat more difficult to rack, but racking it firmly and not riding the slide on the release should result in a chambered round. This bothered me about my CW at first, and then when I discussed it with an instructor that's when I found out that *I* was part of the problem by riding the slide. The first nut to tighten is the one behind the wheel.

Ok, so Mrs. MissiontoMars and I took a shield for a spin. Put 100 rds downrange.

I have to admit, it's a NICE shooter. We both were very accurate with it.

She LOVED it. I had her shoot it and my XD9 5" side by side to see which she prefered, telling her that the SC would be exactly the same as far as controls, but that the sight radius would be shorter, and it might be noticably "flippier" overall.

Here was her take on the Shield:

      -Nice, crisp trigger break
-Thin, but long (front to back) grip.
      -Sights were easy to aquire
      -Easy to rack
-recoil was more of a push, and less flip that she was expecting, very controllable, and she was able to shoot some effective "quick pairs". (What I was calling holding the gun at low ready, bringing the gun up, aquiring the sights, firing, recovering, reaquiring and firing again. Not sure if I was using the correct vernacular)

Ok, well, not that it's a HUGE deal to anyone other than me, but I went ahead and threw $300.00 down on a 9mm -CA compliant-Shield on sunday.

I'll pay off the rest at the end of this week and start her jail-time.

One thing that confused me though, just as a side-note. The gun-store/gun range owner commented that he was glad I was getting a 9mm shield because they weren't necessarily going to be getting any more than they had in stock.

        ?

Now, don't get me wrong, I was aware that this was FUD, because I think shields are rostered until what like, July 2015...at which point they'll be re-certed by S&W, right? And quite honestly, I got this at a good price, and it wasn't until after the deal was struck that he mentioned this, almost more as an "aside" chit-chat type thing.

I think he was mistakenly lumping the shield in with other M&P's, maybe?
