    First Sig, P226 Elite Scorpion

Well, never say never I guess. I'm picking up my new P226 Elite Scorpion (CA version) on Thursday and have a few questions. I told myself I'd never get the CA version of any Sig because of the LCI and Mag disconnect but on the Scorpion the ugly text on the slide is barely visible and I think I can get over the pop up indicator. I traded my G22, some rounds and a little cash and think I got a pretty good deal and it helps me consolidate my calibers to 9mm & .45.

First question is whether or not it is worth changing out the locking insert to get rid of the mag disconnect. I personally don't think that it would ever be an issue but I hate the fact that it's there and can be easily replaced. If I do decide to replace the locking insert is there any issue with using a MIM part as a replacement.

Second question is what to use for lube. I'm wondering if since the frame is alloy and the slide is Stainless if something different than the Mobile One Synthetic I use on my .45 and on my Glocks is needed.

    Thanks,

    Eric

Sometimes I use CLP, Slip 2000, other times Grease TW25. I noticed that using grease on rails makes it smoother. For the rest, I use oil.

Your locking block is already MIM (they have been MIM for years now). I'd change it out personally, but they are pretty expensive. It will drop right in. The only tool you need is a screwdriver to remove the right hand grip so that you can disconnect the trigger bar return spring.

Get some grease and grease that puppy up. The stainless slide/alloy framed models (like yours) will show more initial wear then the wear will stop. If you keep up on the grease, it won't wear anymore. I personally use Lubriplate 105. You can get a tube of it from Napa for $8 and it will last you a lifetime.

Thanks Soup. I found a locking insert for $60, about half of retail so not really a big deal.

Not sure I understand your question, but I have the normal 226 with night sights, and was able to remove 1 small pin, spring and fulcrum to get rid of the mag disconnect without purchasing anything.

            This was a 226 9mm.

So no reason to buy a new locking insert? Sounds like you're saying the parts that create the mag disconnect can be removed from the stock locking insert which would be ideal.

                Indeed.

                Function and fire checked.

I did this a while ago, but I remember tilting the insert out, pulling the 3 tiny parts out, then putting it all back together and it works.
