HK P2000 SK. A great carry pistol, because;
It's an HK. You can get it in 9MM or .40S&W. You can use USP mags with the X-GRIP adapter, the shorter mags that come with, or the shorter mags with a flush-fit base plate, so there's 3 butt end options depending on how you're carrying and your dress requirements any particular day. You can get it in DA/SA, or with the LEM trigger. Oh, and did I mention, it's an HK?
You can also very easily swap the factory mag release levers with the slightly larger ones like the HK45 uses. I think I got the parts from HK parts net (sorry my memory isn't better on this) and it takes all of 90 seconds. -

the best still on roster is the H&K P2000sk with left hand controls.
the P7M8 is a supper choice, but not on the roster any more.
the sk is 9 round in .40, 10 round in 9mm. as was mentioned, the 9 round can be extended to 10. just use the 10 round mag with the X-Grip dodad that makes it fit right for about $10 to $12.
for reliability, it can't be beat.Comment

When it comes to smaller pistols with side-lever mag release---only two I can think of are the Walther PPS and the HK P2000sk---both are available in 9mm and .40 cal. Personally, I prefer 9mm in smaller pistols---just seems a better match to small guns. I have both---the PPS is slimmer than the P2000sk, but the sk holds a few more rounds. Both are top-flight pistols.Comment

I understand that $850 is a lot of money, I should have worded my response better. For a pistol I may have to use to protect yourself, I would pay whatever is needed to have the right pistol on my hip. I will spend far more vetting the pistol anyway, so the price difference of only +/- $200, seems inconsequential. For me it's a no brainier. So I guess the point is, how much is your life worth?Comment

Get the dang pps. the trigger doesnt matter. When you have to draw and shoot to defend your life you arent going to notice the differences between a 12lb revolver trigger and a 3lb 1911 let alone going from an hk to a pps. Its going to happen unexpectedly and fast. And you arent going to be feeling take-up and reset when it happens.
Source of this info is Tom Givens from Rangemaster when he was interviewed on ballistic radio. He is a trainer out in memphis that has had 63 students get in gun fights and only 2 lost their fight. They had decided not to carry that day.just happy to be here. I like talking about better ways to protect ourselves.
