I haven't seen many around in stores to get my hands on yet, I shall keep an eye out; I do like the look of these.

Nope, the XDS is the single stack made specially for ccw, about 1" wide (rounds are limited to 7 and 9 depending on magazine).

Here is a great comparison to of the Service 4" to the XDS-4.0:

Thank you very much! With this gun being fairly new to the market, will it be harder to find used?

I would be purchasing a Gen 3 Glock if I decide to go that path, the Gen 4 aren't drop tested for California yet, and I don't yet have my Firefighter 1 for another year, I can't buy blue label

I have been raised around guns, I EDC my favorite Kershaw Blur most everywhere I go, except school. And I am looking to get my CCW before I'm 21 because of my occupations.
I'm not trying to be rude but you do know that the only way to get a handgun before you're 21 is to have it gifted from a parent? (not including building from a paperweight) Also just wondering why you don't carry you're knife at school. I assume you're in college. I've carried a knife clipped to the top of my pocket (easily visible) for the last 6 semesters, never had a problem. I see other students doing it all the time as well, and it is a public college.

I'm quite aware of the legalities, I did not post that I planned to do this because I am new to the forum and upon reading the rules I did not want my first post to violate the clause about hinting at anything illegal. I know that it is not illegal but I didn't want to get banned, I have a lot of friends who love the site, I don't wanna be left out ;-)

Yes this is sort of going to be a graduation present actually I graduate high school in 5 weeks. Start college in 8.
So my parents will have to buy whatever gun I decide to get, then transfer the gun into my name. This is something they are aware of and they might actually be willing to match half of the cost, if I get lucky

As to why I don't carry at school, because I'm still in High School, when I go to college in two months I will carry there.

Ah okay. Nothing illegal about hand selecting your own gift haha. And yes, please don't carry a Blur while still in high school. I have one and I know they violate the 2.5 inch max length for a K-12 campus per state law, apart from likely being an expellable offense to the school. Sorry for making assumptions and jumping to conclusions. I myself have no advice on what to buy because I too am under 21, but do not have parents that are supporting of my firearm related interests.

Since you're looking at plastic, you should certainly look at the M&P as well. Check out the Sig P226 or perhaps a compact Sig.

Try to rent and shoot everything you're considering if you can. It will be far better information than anything we can tell you. And it's a lot of fun!

Let us know which way you end up going.

                        I am planning on it.

Does anyone know where you can rent and shoot guns around Placer County/ Roseville besides the gun room? I have heard the gun room is pretty pricey.
