    Range Time with Steyr M9-A1

Finally got to the range with the new M9......Awesome.

I am really impressed with this pistol for its price. I put 300 rounds of mediocre reloads through it with no hiccups. Not a single stove pipe, etc, all with crappy ammo. Ergonomics are great, and lining up shots is fairly simple with the sighting system. Double and triple taps on steel at 15 yards no problem...real manageable. Recoil is actually more than I expected, due to the lightweight and short barrel (I'm used to 1911's) but not bad.

All in all, I give it a thumbs up. All of my friends are getting one.

Yes, the "A1" models. There's an abundance of the old M9 but its the M9-A1 along w/ its .40 S&W counterpart that's OK for CA.

          Sorry, my bad...

I am cleaning it today, I'll put up some pictures afterwards. I didn't keep my paper for pictures...probably should have, but I will be at the range again.

how was the accuracy? Can you compare to any gun other than 1911. 1911s are just too accurate.

I ordered mine through my FFL from Wolverine Shooting Sports in Michigan. I think they are on Guns America from time to time. Magazines are in CDNN (ten rounders) for 9.99.

The accuracy is top notch. It has a short barrel (like 3.5"). I haven't measured it yet, but noticed how short it was when cleaning my 1911 side by side. What I noticed when shooting was how remarkably fast follow up was.

I can't really compare it fairly to a 1911. I am a 1911 shooter first. The Steyr is a modern combat pistol, the 1911 a classic that performs to how each model is built. Out of the box, I would say it performs better than most "stock" lower priced 1911's, no question, and better than the HK USP (shot them side by side). My 1911 is VERY accurate...but its souped up, so thats not a fair comparison. Note that my Steyr is 9mm, but since the gun is so light, I feel that recoil is equivalent to my heavier 1911.

More on this when I get some more range time with better ammo.

                          I just picked up my M40-A1 today . . . awesome.

I paid $400 with shipping + dros and transfer fee, but NO tax (from Carlton Outdoors Supply in Georgia, also on GunsAmerica.com) for a new gun, and got 5 mags from CDNN at $10 a pop.

Went to the range today and put 200 rds down the pipe, very accurate, not one malfunction . . . did I say it's an awesome gun?????

                          I too am a 1911 shooter first . . . I miss having somethng to do with my thumb . . . .

                          BTW it's a 4" barrel

                          Okay, I'm no Lunde but here's a pic . . . .
