Comped Beretta M9 (SGS ALGIMEC Style)? Yes Please!

Many years ago I had a 92FS, that I had customized:

Fell on tough times and had to sell it, right here on Calguns actually.

    IIRC it had these mods.

    -Rics SGS Style Compensator

    -Meprolight Night Sights

    -Elite II Skeleton Hammer

    -Extended/Oversized Inox Mag Release

    -Stainless Hex key grip screws

    -Hogue Wrap Around Rubber Grips

    -Beretta Factory D Spring

    -Wolff Service Pack Springs

    -Polished Feed Ramp

    -INS Trigger Spring Conversion

Well, today, I finally am going to replace it with an M9!

Plan on setting it up similarly and likely going with LTT Optic Cut. Super stoked!

Don't worry, that laser will be coming off as soon as it comes home.

    Update: Comp came in today!

A quick look at the comp from many angles:

A closer look at the components and how to fit, install & remove the comp:

That's cool but the M9/92FS are already probably the heaviest factory 9mm pistols on the market, how many more ounces does the comp add? That thing must weigh a ton?

      🤣.

Yes, but he’s good. Maybe load that bad girl with some 147 gr rounds to even her out 😁.

It's funny you mention that, I was literally just weighing the M9 (without comp) vs. Glock 34 with light & RDO and the G34 with 5 more rounds of ammo on board only weighed around 3oz more lol. Can't wait to add an optic lol. Compared to a 1911 though... still a light pew! I'll have to weigh it now. It was 2lb7.1oz with a loaded mag of 115g JHP, now it's 2lb 12.6oz, so about 5oz added.

That added weight (however minimal it may be) could come in handy for a range toy.

With you having owned both now, would you recommend a 92 or an M9? They are pretty similar in price, any advantages or disadvantages of one over the other? I don't care that they M9 was the milspec and the 92 wasn't. I have read that the M9s are US made while the 92s are still made in Italy. If I'm buying a Beretta, I definitely prefer made in Italy as all of my other Berettas are.

I would say get whichever one you can find for a better price. The slide seems a bit smoother on the M9 than I remember the 92FS, BUT I haven't had my 92FS for over a decade, so it's hard to make a fair comparison. Out of all my current Beretta's I only have one that's Italian and while not really any better than any of the others it is kinda cool to have an actual Italian Beretta.

I read some chatter that at least at one time, the US Beretta facility was putting out some pretty shoddily made guns with with high initial defect rates, you know, like Sigs, although I am sure that was nipped in the bud by the Gardone folks as Beretta has quite the reputation for making quality guns.
I've owned three Sigs I bought new and all three were pieces of junk so I don't want to go through that nightmare again, the repeated round trips back to factory service. I am very gun shy about poorly made brands that were once well made in other spots while their US made product is junk.

I've been on the Beretta Forum for nearly 20 years at this point and don't recall seeing much of any issues with either the M9 or 92 series Berettas. I know my 92 ran great without issue. The M9, I haven't taken to the range yet since I was waiting for the compensator to arrive. I might go tomorrow, we shall see!

Wow where did you get the comp from? I haven't seen one of those in years.

I'm tempted to get on for my 92FS.

You can get them from Ric directly, he's been making them for nearly 20 years at this point.
