Considering getting Conceal Carry permit... have some questions.

    I read this --> Linky

And the fact that I can be charged with a felony if I have an unloaded gun in my trunk in a locked container unless I am basically going to/from a range.

What about going camping? I am allowed to have a loaded gun at my campsite.. what about getting there? Id like to take the gun with me in the woods for protection from a bear or mountain lions.. but apparently I cant legally?

What if I want to take it to my friend's house to show him?

What about taking it with me when I go to downtown LA to visit a friend because its a shady shady place with shady shady people roaming the streets?

    Basically these rules are ridiculous..

    1) What exactly do I need to do to get a Conceal Carry permit?

    2) How long is it valid for?

    3) From what I heard at a gun store, one of the guys was saying that its very easy and you basically have to go to a 4 hour class, and thats it. Is that true?

    4) How much does it cost?

    Thank you

First off which county do you live in? That will tell us if you might even have a chance of getting one.

      Orange County

that actually brings up 5th question

      5) If I get a Conceal Carry in one county (Orange County in my case), is it valid in other counties? Entire state?

I would recommend spending some time reading in the concealed carry forums. All of you worries and questions should be satisfactorily put to rest.

You should read up on the laws for transporting your handguns. There are methods discussed on this forum that will allow you to legally carry your handgun in many different parts of your vehicle. The critical factors are the locked container and the unloaded gun.

I suppose you can be charged with anything these days, but being convicted is a different story. LEO can be hit and miss when it comes to gun issues, it depends on their personal beliefs and their mood that day.

One thing to be aware of; people can't and won't give advise on these forums that knowingly encourages breaking any laws, and if it happens inadvertently, they will be reprimanded fairly readily. You have to know the laws and decide what action to take. I think everyone would encourage you to get your LTC/CCW if you can. If you are a responsible gun owner, you should carry legally and with confidence.

Good luck in your research here, there is a lot to read and learn!

Yes, IF you are able to obtain a LTC (License to Carry, the correct name for what you are referring to), it would be valid statewide.

I think your friend was misinformed, there is much more involved than that, and in Orange county you probably will not get one unless you are someone "special".

Read up on our LTC forums, they have about all the info you need or want...you could also look up the "CCW" policy on the OC sheriff's website to see what they say you have to do.

There are two different LTC forums here at Calguns.

You want to read the one for Orange County here: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=352774 and recognize that getting LTC will be difficult there; if you live in OC, no agency outside of OC may legally issue to you.

You misremembered what you read at the link - that article specifies, correctly, a LOADED handgun. For UNLOADED, see the wiki article on transporting -- http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Transporting

"Getting" and "Applying" are two different beasts.

                Thanks much for the links

It states that "It is legal to transport your handgun to anyplace where it is legal to possess."

Would my friend's house fall under that (assuming I have his permission ofcourse)? Its his property right?

You don't have to have a destination and a cover story when legally transporting an unloaded handgun in a locked container. Quit making it more complicated than it is.

Lot of FUD on that link BTW.

Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt....FUD...Code for untrue Bullsheat. We get a lot of FUD from:

                        1. Gunstore Employees.
                        2. Police officers.
                        3. Some in the CRPA have FUD on their website

Our main Anti-Fud man is Librarian.

FYI- if you live under Sheriff Gore's reign of unconstitutionality (ie- San Diego county) your chances of getting the ability to practice your 2nd Amendment right (your right to keep and bear arms) is pretty much a waste of your time. San Diego, you need to "be somebody" or "carry large amounts of cash" or be a 78 year old councilman who can't shoot straight to save his life.... then and only then will you get your application for LTC even past the initial screening.

That's just my opinion anyway, I've tried and failed and there's not really a whole lot I can do to overturn the fact that my Ohio LTC is not recognized here besides either (1) run for sheriff and get him chased out of town or (2) endorse whomever runs against Sheriff Gore in 2014 election.

It IS variable - see the wiki article on UNlicensed concealed carry -- http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Un...oncealed_Carry

Without LTC, the only safe general rule applies inside your own dwelling, whether you own it or are renting: you may carry loaded, openly or concealed inside your home. You may grant that privilege to anyone who enters your home.

Step outside the door, entirely different game.
