I would take him to the store and let him try it. I have small hands but prefer big grips. Just my 2 cents.

This is exactly my suggestion and situation. Let him find a gun that fits him. My hands are on the small-medium size, but larger grips like the large frame Glocks and the Beretta 92fs grips feel the most comfortable in my hands.

        I am a small dude, small hands...very embarrassing... :-(((

Anyway, I am comfortable with most common sized guns. M&P, Glock, etc. But most comfortable with 1911's...like a 1980 Corvette, it feels like it was made just for me.

I agree with the above post, let him try a bunch. I am sure he will find what works.

M&P9 with the small backstrap, 1911 obviously..., I thought the FNP9 had a fairly small and ergonomic grip.

Try the Springfield XD in addition to M1911's.

Or, maybe a nice revolver. Some tend to have smaller grips.

              Best!

M&P 9mm is a great gun and you have three sizes to choose from. I have medium hands and I use a medium, but I have tried the small and large. Strange thing is they all in their unique way feel great. I'm comfortable shooting all three sizes.

                          God I love my M&P

+1 on the Ruger. Also the Rossi revolvers have a nice feel/grip for smaller hands.
