Hey gunners, is that too much for a Springfield 1911 Target 9mm?? The gun is used and you can tell its is used. It doesn't look "like new", the slide has some scratches and a small idiot mark I think. I've seen some idiot marks that run all the way down into the trigger but this one doesn't go all the way. Well the gun sells for $840 plus tax and dros, it's on consignment. I'm in Salinas so i want to know before i head back home. I've wanted a Springfield loaded 1911 9mm but this one seems to be calling my name. The difference between the target and the loaded is just the adjustable sights right??

Only too much if you don't have the money. There are so few 9mm - 1911 models available on the CA Roster that new one's are hard to come by. Personally I wouldn't but that is just me.....I'm likely to get an RIA Tactical 9mm on the single shot exemption and spend several hundred less. IF I had the money in my pocket and was in your shoes though - I might be thinking diff.... -

@alliedarmory....yeah at $840 I wouldn't even have started this thread but damn taxes add$75 bucks. I'm pretty sure I won't find a cheaper one but I'm to convince myself if used is worth it. I wouldn't mind a RIA but Springfield's customer service is excellent from what I've read here. How much are RIA tactical usually??sigpic PM 4 Front Sight diamond

Price starts to make .45ACP look pretty good. I wanted a 9mm at first. Was dead set on it. Then the difference in cost hit me like a brick wall. There were some great deals on gently used 45s, but even the used and abused 9mms were just a hair under retail.
Don't get me wrong. I do not mind paying extra if there is some significant quality improvement. And perhaps the caliber truly matters and effects your needs. But then again perhaps a 45 will actually serve you well and like myself you just didn't know it.
One thing that surprised me being a 9mm guy and a Glock guy is the the transition to 45ACP was easy. For such large round there is very little increase in felt recoil. I'm talking a tiny amount. At least when it comes to transitioing from a mid-size polymer frame 9mm to a full size 1911.
Part of the reason for that is a 1911 is heavier gun. Mine has a steel frame which makes it even heavier. Pretty sure the Springfield Target would be all steel as well. That is a lot of weight to have in a 9mm gun. Weight makes concealed carry a little uncomfortable (pulls down your pants through out the day). The upside to that extra weight of the 1911, however, is it really helps cut down recoil on a round like the 45ACP.
So when I compare shooing my very light weight Glock 19 9mm with shooting my rather heavy Kimber Custom II 1911 45ACP, they are not that much different with regards to felt recoil thanks to the weight.
My advice would be to get a 1911 in 45ACP where the added weight is necessary, but spend the extra money for a light weight aluminum frame if you plan to carry. Save the 9mm for something more affordable, and significantly lighter weight where the smaller caliber plays a major role in recoil management.
But if you have your heart set on the 1911 in 9mm...go for it.Last edited by tacticalcity; 05-26-2011, 4:17 PM.Comment

RIA version
As soon as I went to go look I see they are out of stock and no longer available for back order....usually that means its either out of production or something new is coming down the pipe? I couldn't tell you. I can tell you its off the list so you'd have to go through the single shot conversion hassle....but there are dealers not far from Salinas that do that I believe - bay area. I think if there is a version of this out there its probably $450 plus the fees/taxes...but I don't believe the fit/finish of the RIA is equal to a Target Springfield either.
Good luck....I'm a cheap skate and fit and finish only matter to my safe queens to which a 1911 9mm wouldnt' be....so if they are still going to make the RIA I'll probably go that route.

Pretty good price there - Shooting 9mm on an 1911 platform is joy -Comment

Figure the cost savings shooting 9mm from a 1911 will more than make up for any cost delta versus .45. It's still mostly personal preference tho... .45 has a different recoil impulse than 9mm, so it's hard to put into words.SCC CCW *326 Days, $1051.29*

I have that model 9mm. I was the first to buy one and then 4-5 of my shooting friends bought the same. None are for sale either. Its a fun gun to shoot. My daughter shoots it in USPSA matches.
The good thing about it is you can always sell it later....Someone WILL buy it.........They are popular.Comment

Meh, to me the point of 9mm is for volume shooting with more noticeable recoil than .22, or just plinking out at the range. For me both of those are going to be more along the lines of volume shooting than trying to be as accurate as possable, so I would either single shot an RIA 9mm, or(what I ended up doing) buy an RIA .38 super and convert it to 9mm. That way, since it's a fairly cheap, easy to get gun, I dont really care if it gets scratched, dinged or dropped.

How about a single shot exemption on a STI Spartan, should be around 950 out the door.

Last I heard STI won't ship to CA, period. I have my Colt 9mm Commander which many will argue isn't a good "value", but the only issue for me is committing the money for a full custom build. OP, if you plan on doing non-bubba mods down the road, the Springfield will hold resale value much better.Last edited by Cyc Wid It; 05-26-2011, 7:59 PM.WTS all BNIB: Colt S70 Repro, HK45c, Gen4 G19Comment
