New owner of a Glock 17. I was looking at the serial number and its a 3 digit number followed by US. The right side of the pistol says Smyrna, GA. Clueless. Its pistol #103. There are three letters before the numbers.

No, the US in the serial number is from older generation Glock pistols. The new USA Made Glocks have 4 letters and 3 numbers and will say "US" on the slide and frame."If it wears out, replace it. If it breaks, upgrade." -Cranky Air Force Vet.

I guess I was wrong. US are export only right? A couple of weeks ago some guy here was trying to sell one for a ridiculous price.sigpic PM 4 Front Sight diamond

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping it was made in Austria.Comment

Aren't all Glocks made in Austria? Apparently, U.S. bound Glocks don't have the proof marks like German made pistols.
Correct me if I am wrong.Comment

I have a second generation glock 17 made in around 1995.
The frame has the full serial number:
BED###US
The barrel has BED### without the US.
The slide has:
Glock 17 AUSTRIA 9x19 on one side
Nothing on the other side.Last edited by E Pluribus Unum; 03-31-2011, 2:39 AM.Originally posted by Alan GuraThe Second Amendment now applies to state and local governments. Second Gen explains why it has US in the serial. It was a US bound Glock from Glock Austria."If it wears out, replace it. If it breaks, upgrade." -Cranky Air Force Vet.

Just call GLOCK. Takes about a minute together your answer. From what I remember them telling me, the U.S. Made ones would say so on the slide. Mine was imported in aug '10 and is Austrian with tennifer. Has the older stronger finish with lighter grey (more scratch resistant) barrel. The tennifer "finish" is on the metal and is notthe "black" that you physically see one the slide.

It's my understanding that the tenifer finish is not legal to "make" in the USA per EPA regs.R.I.P. Chris Kyle. 2/2/13Comment

My last communication with a vet Glock armorer is that the gun was made in Austria and "assembled" in Smyrna, GA.sigpicComment
