USP 9/40 mags interchangeable?

I thought I read somewhere that the .40 and the 9mm USP mags are interchangeable. Is this true? Are they identical? Is there any downside to using one or the other?

As far as I know, they are not compatible.

The 40 will work with the 9 but not vice versa.

I'm a little too tired to remember exactly, but the .40 mag in a 9mm will hold 12 or 13 rounds of 9mm. Talking the fullsize pistol here.

Wow, thats actually news to me. I was always certain the 9 wouldn't work with 40. Didn't know the opposite wasn't true.

I think they are as interchangeable as any Glock 40s&w mag will hold 9mm ammo and fit in 9mm Glock. Since the 10rd ban, people have been trying to use 40s&w mag and load 9mm to get few more rounds in their gun, it's really not the news.

But if you want the reliability, get the right caliber.

USP40c/P2000 mags work great in the 9mm versions and hold 13rds.
