Ok I have been thinking long and hard about this and wanted some input from you folks. I bought about three years ago a Glock Model 22 with night sights. I initially bought it because I moved to the bay area by myself and at that particular point in my life wanted some protection other than a rifle as I was living in an apartment. Flash forward to present day, I have moved to a house and honestly haven't touched the gun since new. I have literally never fired the thing once, brand new for all intensive purposes. The only handling I have done is my monthly relubing of the pistol. I don't take it to the range because well glocks have never really done it for me and at the time I bought it, it was the best I could afford and be a decent firearm. I am now using a rifle as my HD weapon of choice. I am considering ditching it and buying something from masterpiece arms, not for HD but rather something I would actually be interested in taking out and shooting rather than sitting in a sock drawer many years from now still doing nothing as I have no real desire to take it out. Am I crazy for wanting to do this? Also on that note what is a three year old unfired glock 22 with glock night sights and a couple hundred rounds of 40cal ammo laying around worth?

You have a G22 but you use a rifle for HD
How about getting an 870 or 590 for HD and selling your G22 for a MPA or another pistol. And why relube an unused Glock every month? For a fun gun I would definately look into a MPA Mac 11 I'm sure you would have fun with it at the range.

Go shoot the thing, you might like it.
From another perspective, if I had to fight my way back to one of my carbines, a full size Glock would be my top choice if the dead decide to rise from the grave.
Then again, hey, its your gun, do with it as you please. From the sound of it, you'll be able to get near what you put into it, if it hasn't been shot and minty.Comment

I saw a great show on TV. They shot various rounds at a setup with walls/refridgerator/book shelf with books. 9mm/.40 S&W, .45 ACP, .223, etc
The .223 (small rifle calibur) pretty much went through everything.
Honestly if you want a good HD weapon, why pick a firearm that will go through the criminal the wall, the car on the street...
IMHO safer to use your Glock 22 for HD as defensive rounds could stop the attacker and you won't risk hitting targets behind your intended target.NRA Member

Why sell? If you feel you are better off then save that Glock, itll still work when hell freezes over.Comment

I believe a handgun is a better tool than a longgun for HD. I say this because you can manipulate the weapon with one hand. People often forget when your clearing a residence, you have things like doors you need to open and if your alone its a little difficult to do when you have both hands on the longgun. If you notice when SWAT members open a door, a team member opens it and another member enters with both hands on his longgun and eyes lookin for targets. You always want to be prepared for the fight. You can also cut the pie when opening a door with one hand and weapon at the ready with the other hand. Also, longuns are awkward in small places and turning corners. Lastly, the muzzle blast and noise might put yourself out of the fight. I prefer subsonic rounds like 9mm in 147grn. But if your gonna just hole up in a room, then 12 gauge 00 buckshot will do. Just my opnion.Comment

as long as your long gun isn't overly long, IE 16inch rifle or 18 inch shotgun, a normal size male should have no problem opening doors and turning corners, it just takes a little effort to learn.
In your home, NOTHING spells confidence like a pump action 12GA. NOTHING.Comment

IMO a pistol beats a rifle for HD any day. Remember you are responsible for EVERY bullet that comes out of your gun. And if you go through the bad guy and through the wall into your neighbors head you are responsible now for a innocent death. Involuntary manslaughter probably. If you dont trust a 22 for HD sell it (if its what I think it is they sell for 300-350ish used yours proabbly 10% off the price of a BNIB IMO due to it being new never fired) then get a 9 40 or 45. Personally I would keep the g22 and get a used 9mm or used 45.Comment
