CONVERTING 9MM COLT COMMANDER TO 45

Is it just as simple as replacing the 9mm barrel and or bushing to a 45?

If I remember correctly, the mag wells are somewhat different dimensionally. There might be differences in the barrel to slide measurements as well. I have a .45 Combat Commander and at one time had a 9mm Commander and I never thought of trying to swap parts. They were always two wholly different guns to me.

I think you need to swap slides too

Not that simple to go from 9 to .45 - If you have a 9 in commander size - It's quite desireable - Sell it and you'll have plenty leftover to get your .45 -

        Here's a thread over @ 1911 forum discussing the very same -

I have a Kimber Pro Carry II that I'm seeing how many things I can change on it. I'd like to be able to do ANYTHING with this pistol... I already have a .22 conversion kit and I have a steel MSH, mag well, new hammer, thin grips, a new trigger, a memory bump safety, and an extended slide release...

if i remember correctly you will need a .45 slide, barrel, slide release, magazines, and ejector.

Remove the slide from the frame and buy all those pieces for a 45. You will also need a 45 ejector for the frame.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

I had an older Series 80 Colt Combat Govt. Not a Special Combat Govt. This model well predated the specials. It came with a factory 9mm conversion unit.
To do the conversion, you need a complete upper end, (slide and all internals including barrel, etc.) slide stop, ejector, and magazines. Slide may or may not need to be fitted. Colt's are pretty loose fitting. With this, you should be good to go.

A 9mm colt commander will bring a pretty penny.

I think you have it right. As someone else pointed out you need to change out the ejector in the frame.
Although it seems relatively simple it can be a PITA to do this. When you change
everything over you end up with a whole bag of loose parts for one
caliber or the other. Be a lot better to have 2 seperate pistols. Pete
