This is the classic question everyone who carries .45 asks themselves.
Fire discipline matters, too.
I remember seeing one video in a bar. One guy ducks under a pool table and immediately unloads his entire 17-round magazine into the door. Out of ammo, he then scurries away.
The gang bangers outside would fire three rounds through the door, then duck behind the wall again. They had video both inside and outside to show them shooting at each other. No one was hit.
I saw another video with I think an off-duty cop who was outgunned by multiple bad guys. So he would fire one round and duck behind cover again. He was able to keep this up for a while. It kept the bad guys head down until police arrived.
A third one had a lawyer being attacked by a disgruntled client who had a revolver. The lawyer kept a tree between him and the attacker, who kept shooting at the tree until he ran out of ammo. Attacker walked away - and so did the lawyer.
For some, including cops I know, a .45 fits their hand better so they prefer to carry something they are more accurate with. They are willing to sacrifice the extra rounds to stop with one shot. They will also carry extra magazines and utilize cover when they need to reload.
The 6-round LCP is popular because it's easy to conceal. The thinking is that it's better to have 6 rounds of .380 in your pocket than zero rounds of 9mm because your full size is locked up in the vehicle.

call it a high capacity clip and watch people at the gun store cry. We all know what you meant, you're good.
