Wow, great gun. My uncle had one that was parkerized. Maybe it was made by Smith & Wesson.

    They made them too.

        Wish I had one!

Any further info from the person/store that sold it to you?

It looks like it was recently refurbished, or it has been in a vault all this time.

OP that is a mighty fine looking pistol.

Some Colt 1917s in Army inventory were also parkerized for reissue in WW2. I have such a specimen, also made in 1920.

Here it is with a 1942 Colt Commando

I have a S&W 1917 Brazilian. Similar to what's being discussed but was Brazilian Army property.
Mine looks like it was used as a boat anchor. No finish left, deep pits on the outside. The action is smooth, crisp, and a light single action trigger pull. It's probably the most accurate handgun I have. Very fun to shoot.

nitro, between the lanyard loop, the stocks, and that barrel profile... ugh. WANT.

I'm a .45 auto guy, and do not own a whirlenpopper so chambered. I do shoot plenty of heavy .44 Special in Ruger flat top single actions, though.

One day I may add either the Colt or the S&W or both to my small collection.

Thanks for your excellent post. Great to hear just a nudge of what you've uncovered regarding the history of these revolvers.

That is an amazing old warhorse - take good care of her and keep her spitting lead, that what she’s made for!

I carried a 1917 Colt as my back-up during two tours of Nam. I was able to bring it home with me and has sat in my safe unfired since 1972.

A friend of mine had one, along with a box of auto-rim. It had about a 15 pound double action trigger pull.

Nice, one of those are definitely on my buy right now list if I ever see one in the wild.
45 ACP is fun in a revolver, I already have 3 Ruger SA’s and a S&W chambered in 45ACP but I need a 1917 to round out the collection.
