This was near the end of the mag, 2 rounds left under it so no excessive tension. The gun was very clean and lubed up nicely before the day at the range, this was round #142 of that session (ya, I keep count) This particular firearm had just under 450-lifetime rounds through it at that point.
Ammo was Winchester white box.
You can see in the picture the damage to the inside lip of the rim where the extractor popped off of it, the bottom of the rim has a similar mark but on the outside of the rim where it came in contact with the lip of the brass of the next round, You can see in the picture where the 2 brass are in contact. The slide went back, the rim hit the lip of the next brass and dug in and got caught causing the extractor to pull off of the fired round. Did not notice this till I examined the brass later at home. I Fired 8 more rounds of the Winchester ammo and another 50 rounds of Tula ammo just to see if the issue would happen again, but it did not. Ran smooth.
This is the pistol I will be using for my CCW. Is this a common malfunction? The base clipping the lip of the next round? Is there anything I can do to try to prevent it in the future?
By the way, the white fill on the text there is from a Crayola Crayon it has held up through several outings, shooting and sitting out in the sun and cleanings. Never touched up. Holding up pretty good right?
