    Beretta 92 FS Spring Question

    Hi all,

I recently ordered this recoil spring from Midway:

It came with a recoil spring (d'uh), but it came with a second spring that is about 1 inch long and a diameter of 1/4 in:

Searching high and low, I am having trouble figuring out where this should go. While my Berretta has the thumb release, it appears that it could be the mag release spring seen here:

    Any thoughts? Thanks!

The smaller spring is a trigger spring. Pull the grips, and the triggerbar is there (in the grip) and awaiting your new spring at the bottom of the grip.

I have yet to modify the recoil spring from stock. (The big spring).

    Welcome to CALGUNS!!!

      Thanks for the welcome!

For all of you wondering, here is what I was told:

Thank you for your email and for ordering our Beretta recoil spring. The small spring included in the recoil spring pack is an extra power firing pin spring. It is not necessary that you install the firing pin spring to use our recoil spring.

Sure looks like a firing pin spring. Some or most Wolff recoil springs will be accompanied by firing pin springs.

Here is a complete disassembly video. You can see the firing pin spring in it.

It's a firing pin spring, probably extra power for added safety. You don't have to use it.

I changed out both springs and it was a huge improvement.

That video was very helpful, thank you! Better than the grainy VHS-quality video I used before.

So far I have replaced the barrel spring, trigger with a shorter trigger (and a paperclip for assembly), added some rubbery grips, and will change the pin spring when I find time. Wondering if I should change the main spring, too, from the grip? The above changes have made the gun fit a lot better in my hand and the smaller pull has really improved my ability to stay on target.

Go for a D (16#) main (or hammer) spring. It will make the trigger pull a lot lighter and feel better without sacrificing reliability.

I changed out both springs for a set of Wolf D springs. Didn't effect reliability at all and greatly improved the trigger pull. Like day and night. I consider it a necessary upgrade for a Beretta 92.

Try some Wilson ultra thin grips if you really want the gun to feel smaller in your hand. Those grips you have sort of defeat the purpose of the short reach trigger.
