    Dot sights for RIA GI

I picked up an RIA GI from another Calgunner and would like to swap out the sights for dot sights. Nothing fancy, just a bit more visible. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Is it dovetail cut or staked front sight? Try adding some model paint.

Staked. I might try that, although I found inexpensive sights at kensight.com that should probably work.

You might look into these. I believe they will do the install for $ 68.00.

          ^^^^ that.

Or check with Harrison Design. They make all kinds and can install to.

If you don't have the tools or setup todo the install just pay someone. Several places already have been listed. You can also just send the slide out and have it cut for novaks if you like.

Buy a RIA slide with the sights already installed. I think I paid $120 shipped for a new RIA 1911 slide with Novak style sights already installed. Dropped right in, perfect.

Just couple buck for a WHITE nail polish at RiteAid/Walmart/Target it will last you a life time, your lady may have one lay around.
(Note that do not use paint it is very hard to wipe out, the nail polished can wipe out easily with acetone).

Ended up going with Fusion. Mailed them my slide, it came back with dot sights expertly installed, total cost $116 including return shipping. Definitely would recommend.

Maybe a little bit pricey upgrade for a pistol I paid $410 for, but with those sights and a $35 Wilson Combat trigger the gun is actually usable, and still cost only ~$600 all-in (was PPT, so no tax, plus came w/2 extra mags).

Wow, considering that a set of sights usually runs about that much anyway, that's a no brainer, especially for the Novak cuts!

The older RIA Tactical had Novak-ish sights and required filing, but I believe newer ones have the real Novak cut, but don't quote me on that. The original sight cut was probably done to allow "Novak cut sights with some filing" to work without paying royalties or licensing fees to Novak.

I am more surprised that the slide was "drop in"... usually the barrel is fit to the slide ..and slide to the frame.
