All guns should be Glock's, all Glock's should be 9mm, all 9mm Glock's should be G19's.
I got my mother and mother in law LCR's in .38. Even gave them snake rounds because we live in the country. LOL

Count another on the bandwagon for the steel .38 revolver with wadcutters. For my 80+, severely arthritic Mom, I ended up with a Magna-Triggered, lasered 640, although she could handle a couple cylinders of full-power loads.

My .02 in the Monday Morning Quarterback vein: Possibly might've been better for her to head back into the building and ask for help. I'd bet that guys in a construction shop would love to meet a guy waiting to jump a little old lady. If it wasn't a run-flat car, they'd probably change the flat too.
I meant, it is my opinion that...

I will say that I tried to read through the whole three pages and stopped after the first page. This is not meant to offend at all and I respect your love for your mom and the concerns that you are trying to help her address.

With this being said, I would simply recommend pepper spray. It's obvious that your mom is scared and you are too. The desire for her to be able to protect herself and your feelings of security for her being able to protect herself are genuine but I would disagree on what "gun" to get her. I would stick with pepper spray for my recommendation for your mother. Imagine a scenario where your mother has to pull out whatever firearm you choose for her. Is she prepared for the aftermath? The thoughts of shooting someone, killing someone, possible lawsuits and a genuine ability to pull the trigger if necessary? All of these things should be part of the discussion and we have not even considered training with discussions about the mental mindsets and legal issues.

Truthfully, I doubt your mother is ready for all of this. If the situation arises, she may or may not be able to pull the trigger. Pepper spray is not lethal and still gives her the opportunity to get away from harm which is really the point. Killing someone may be what you are thinking that you would do but I doubt you want your mother having to deal with the stress of this situation as well as the ongoing memories of this situation. Again, I'm not trying to "knock" your desires to protect your mother nor her feelings of being scared due to the situation, however I think that more thought needs to occur before you go about arming your mother who still appears to be a bit reluctant about whether or not your belief of her need to arm herself is a good idea.

Pepper spray is probably a much better idea. Under duress, I would seriously doubt that she would be able to use it.

This. Sometimes having a gun makes you hesitate and stops you from doing this.

I recommended Pepper Spray back in post #62 but obviously the majority who posted here thinks that a gun is a much better idea for a 67 year old person to carry with her to protect herself.

Did you all read that she has very little firearm experience and is recoil sensitive? She struggles to rack the slide on a semi-auto gun.

                  Let's look at the facts.

How many people look at their tires and see them leaking air? Runflats don't really lose all the air because of the stiff belts in the sidewalls so I can't see your mom being so observant as to check all 4 tires before getting into the car.

She looks around and sees a guy in the bushes. She sees the guy walk towards her and immediately thinks this person is going to harm her?

She quickly jumps into her SUV and speeds off while looking into the rear view mirror to see the guy who was walking towards her is now running away?

I think a judge will throw this case out the window. But if your mother had a gun and shot the guy walking towards her, then she will be tried for attempted murder or possibly even worse if he dies. Unless that guy has a weapon in his hand that she can visibly see, having a gun will be useless. These days, you really have to prove self defense if you shoot somebody.

But again I am glad no harm came to your mom. He very well could have been up to no good but from what I've read, you and your mom both assumed the worse. Yes, better safe than sorry but I still don't believe carrying a gun is the right answer for this situation nor ever for your mother.

Mom picked out the VP9 from what she tried. She also liked my S&W 64 3in so we are on the lookout for one of those.

I told her she can give the VP9 to me if she ever gets tired of that massive old thing.
