Went to two stores and both want $100 if you buy online and ship to them. Any stores around LA who just take the $25 transfer fee?

The state DOJ collects the $25 DROS fee - so be sure and let everyone here know if you find a dealer that's doing FREE transfers...

Why in the world would a business accept shipment, log it in, do the paperwork, store it, insure it, do more paperwork, deliver it, and log it out, all for free? There are places that only charge $75 for the service. But what you're asking for would be stupidity for the business. Like any other business, some items you make money on, some not so much.
There was a time when some LGS didn't charge those kind of fees. Mine currently is half that I think.
Things have changed. Develop a relationship, start spending money in their shop and you'd be surprised how you are treated. Unfortunately most don't shop like that anymore. We hit the Internet and don't support our local businesses, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes just for convience.
Our way of shopping has changed, their way of doing business has changed along with it. Many shops never see an on line transfer customer before or after the transfer. Some like me do both. My LGS is very understanding if it's something they cannot get. A JM stamped Marlin is one example.
One cannot comment on "excessive" fees unless you know their bottom line profit.
My LGS theory is to keep prices down and give great customer service. So far it's worked out for everybody.
It also helps when the owner is the one running the store."The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

Call around or log in to GunBroker and search by Zip code. In my area fees range from $35 to $150, DROS excluded. Ignore those that like to piss their monies away.
And, it is FFL not FLL.Comment

I like monies. and I like guns. But one must realize it takes monies to buy guns.
If you want to save maximum monies, why not buy the gun from an FFL in Los Angeles?Comment

Ace Pawn in West Covina is my go to shop. They are vendor here and good people. Give them a call first though. The storage is being filled and you will need to schedule to DROS but this is more common for the time being. It might be a bit of a drive for you from LA.
But other are also correct, support your LGS when you can. Develop relationship when you can. Most shops are good people. And because you own guns and they are gun smith. Some of the guns will have to meet the them at some point. Or you will need their PPT service at some point.Last edited by SweetPotato; 09-27-2016, 7:27 AM.A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringedComment

True, I don't line in the PRK, however, I've found that when I go my my local FFL to pick-up a shipped lower, if I buy $50-100 worth of his ammo, he does the 4473 for free (would usually be $25).Comment

I always support our Southern California FFLs.
(Except Fowlers and the Stockade. Two very bad FFLs. They Rip People off everyday.
)
Want a gun from a supplier out of State? Ask your FFL if he can price match and give him a chance to make a buck. He might cut you some slack on the transfer
Fees.
They have rent and electric bills to pay....

sorry guys. Didn't make sense to me either. I guess I don't understand why people would buy cheaper guns online in this case. Might as well get a better price at the store in this case.Comment

They all charge transfers fees - everywhere in the USA. You wont find one in CA that doesn't.
You might get lucky and find one that charges less than $50. You also have to pay sales tax to the FFL when you buy out of state, hopefully you know that.
Unless you are buying something high end, it can be hard to save money buying a gun online by the time you pay a transfer fee and tax.Comment
