Um, because his title says Calguns Addict, he loves guns, he loves the chase, he can afford it, this is America.......need I go on? Logic doesn't enter into all of our purchase decisions, as long as we can rationalize it to ourselves (and our spouse) LOL

CZ75 SP-01 vs. Beretta M9A1

I wanted to have a "keeper" 9mm that is more of a collector piece than a shooter.Comment

I own both pistols you mentioned and either one is an outstanding choice. I have many years of carrying and shooting tons of rounds through the Beretta 92 platform. Always drop dead reliable and easy to shoot accurately at "combat" distances.
I am newly arrived at the CZ party having picked up a CZ-85B and a CZ-75 SP-01 within the last year. Both are phenomenal in the ergonomics department, are heavy steel guns presumably built to withstand a nuclear winter.
Verdict: You will be winning with either one.Comment

Its a really pretty gun. I hope that it lasts long enough to hand down to my son when he's of age.
And as long as the law continues to "allow" it.
For some reason, handing down a Glock just seems really lame.Comment

Having owned and shot both, my vote goes to the CZ. The Beretta has cachet because it is the current US military sidearm, and it's a sexeh gun to boot. The action on it is also silky smooth. Racking the slide is like oiled glass. However, the weird setup of the safety lever, the trigger break I never got comfortable with (it was stock, I never did the D spring upgrade) and the overall unnecessarily large proportions of it made me regret that I couldn't like it more.
The CZ fit my hand like a glove. The trigger was a bit "mushier," but, being used to the long, DA trigger pull of revolvers (my handguns of choice), the mushiness, normally a detriment to good shooting, was actually a benefit to me vis-a-vis the Beretta. The all-steel construction was also an attraction for me, being enamored of 1911s. Also, the safety flipped on and off in the same direction as a 1911, and were also frame-mounted like a 1911.
Accuracy-wise, they were pretty much a wash. However, the CZ pointed more naturally for me and I was able to hit the center of the target more quickly than with the Beretta. With the Beretta, I got tight groups.....that were all low and to the left of the target.
Seriously though - the Beretta was obviously an accurate gun, but I had a hard time adjusting to the trigger break and thus tended to shoot low and left with it. I had to make a very conscious effort to shoot the Beretta straight while the CZ was a natural for me.
I kinda put them in the same bucket, so similiar that shooting them is hard to discern one from the other. CZ is a heckova gun. 92FS and derivatives can be very low cost, especially wrt mags. Everyone has 92FS mags for cheap.
I seriously, seriously was going to buy a CZ and couldn't justify it based on what I have in Beretta hardware. I even shot some CZ clones in Switzerland and thought, man this is just like a 92.
