Colt Python Repair

I know this thread is over a half a year old but Colt no longer works on Pythons. They recommended me to Custom Shop, Inc. in Montana. The said all their Python technicians either died off or retired. What a shame.

That is a damn shame, that Colt didn't want to spend the time, effort and money to keep an apprentice program going. All that knowledge is lost now, barring some of the former employees passing it along in the private sector. Those guys were artists. I remember seeing a pic of a polisher's work station, and he had dozens of different sizes and types of wheels and abrasives, just to work on Pythons.

I tried test fire with snap cap and the trigger appeared to be functional but there are some broken parts. Broken ejector rod, broken part of the hammer and missing screw holding rear sight. ...

LoadedM333, Did you ever get in touch with Colt regarding sending in your Python?

I looked around briefly for a place to do what i think is pretty minor work near San Diego, but feel more comfortable sending it to Colt and having them do a general service on it aswell.

One of the chambers on the cylinder seems to be imperfect and always requires a cleaning rod to tap out the empty brass. I have put a lot of 38 special through it and have cleaned the heck out of the chamber using a brass brush mounted on a drill and plenty of Hoppes. To my eye the chamber is perfectly clean, but still i cant get a piece of fired brass into that chamber. Also i dont think its lead deposits because the fired brass gets tight 2-3mm into the chamber. New 357 rounds fit fine.

Mine is a 6" blued, my father bought it new in the late 70's. I bought it from him last November .

I'd also suggest Frank Glenn, in Arizona, as an alternative.I have an old(1914) Colt New Service 455 that had been converted to 45ACP. I found an unaltered cylinder and ratchet and had Frank return it to original.Perfect job, more than fair price and shoots perfectly and more accurately than with the 45ACP

I called that Colt CS 800 phone number this morning, was on hold for less than ten minutes and was told in less than a minute my Python was made in 1991. Call them, they also give shipping instructions.

Just made a call to Colt Customer Service, my Python was made in 1994. Unfortunately, they won't give any shipping instructions until June.

Send it back to Colt to have it repaired and have it refinished completely. May take 6-12 months at least to get it back but you will have perfect python when you finally get it back!

The guy they caught with your python probably bought it. That gun has likely been through many hands

Sending it to colt is the way to go, I've sent a couple over the years and was always impressed w results

Checked my serial number against the site, no records found. I am going to send it in anyways, so I'll ask them this coming June.
Another question, how do you all send your firearms to Colt? what I mean is, do you have to go through FFL dealer? I have never sent any firearms before. Thanks.

Wow, small world indeed. Please tell your friend that with his assistance and SD Sheriff, the gun made its way back home. Very grateful for his part. I wonder if your friend can tell us the name of the thief, the detective had told me but I forgot. Not going to do anything stupid but I think my house was watched prior to the burglary. I am still missing a few firearms stolen that day.
I do appreciate the offer of contacting your friend, the gunsmith, but at this time, I am going to send it to Colt to have her complete repair/refinish, no offense.

I have a Python at Colt for repairs as we speak, it went in January, repairs will total under $100 which includes shipping back to me.

While there I called to check on the status and they said they were not taking anymore Pythons. I let them know that mine was already there and I had called prior to sending it in for repairs, with that, they gave me a quote and agreed to complete repairs.

Patience is a virtue.

I am one lucky SOB, LOL... Thanks for the information. I am in no hurry, I have other firearms that I can shoot. I want to get her back close to the condition when I first bought it. She's locked up in a real safe this time. When June comes, I'll be contacting Colt.
