    Glock Slide Question

I've finally come over to the Glockside and have a weird question. When I went to the range to confirm that I wanted to purchase my first Glock, I shot the 19 to make sure it would be a good carry gun and then shot the 34 for grins and giggles. Obviously the giggles were to the point where I purchased the 34 first to replace the "home protection" pistol. I picked up the 19 yesterday and qualified with it tonight for the CCW. I have a 26 on hold and am already thinking about a 17 (yes, I do have a problem but I like to think of this forum as a form of group therapy). I already know of the respective magezine compatibility (34 into 17, 17 into 19, and 19 into 26) and appreciate the adaptability of a similar line of same/like magazines. Qualifying tonight, I finally got around to enjoying the famous slide bite and am having cold feet. Rather than adding the grip stop to my 19 I ask you this. I've seen on instagram people taking a 17 and cutting down the grip height to the size of a 19 or more. Does Glock offer compatability where I can take a 17, cut down the frame length only, and put a 19's slide on it? Basically go "upwards"? Can someone who is farther along in their Crystal-Meth-Glock addiction maybe try out and just see if a 19 slide will fit on a 17? That way I can have the full frame height (love my 34) with the 19 length. Sorry for the long rant of a question, I'm trying to sound as smart as everyone else here in the roomand not sound like a Timaaahhhh

19 slide won't operate on a 17 frame. The guide rails on the frame are too far forward.

Not sure what you're trying to accomplish by chopping up Glocks. Your problem will remain unless you have a beavertail fabricated (which is really expensive, but can be done by Robar) or a Grip Force Adapter. Or lastly, a Gen 4 Glock with the beavertail backstrap.

I was afraid you'd say that, thank you for the prompt response.

          Add on beavertail.

          Sorry, not sorry.

Anyone tried this add on beavertail? There's an idea I hadn't thought of. I feel like I can't get a comfortably high hold on the gun as I would like. Perhaps this may help.

                I have 21SF, 26, and a 35.
6-7 years and combined, maybe 4-5k rounds thru them and I've never once had a slide bite. I choke up on them as high as I can get and have big (glove size 11) hands.
Just leave them and shoot, shoot, shoot.

I have all the same controls on all three, (extended mag and slide release) and the same sights.
Triggers have been made as close to each other as possible so no matter which model I shoot, they are close in operation.
I feel this has improved my shooting as there is little time needed to get "used to" whatever gun I pull out of the bag.

Plus zero mag extensions are better for me as in time, I had the plus 1 equipped mags spring get lazy after a time and the slide wouldn't lock back after the last round.
                Just shoot .

I wish I could say that it has never happened to me... I dry-fire practice just about every night and rarely if ever have any contact when cycling the slide to obtain the reset, which brought about the post because I didn't have any bite when trying out the two Glocks that I did. Your secondary point about like triggers is the exact reason why I'm moving over... I want everything to be as close as possible rather than the current CCW setup (Springfield Armory XD-SC, Sig P229, and Sig P220). The trigger play/take up on the Springfield Armory is a world of difference (IMO in a bad way) when compared to a DA/SA let alone the Glock line. I want the same "trigger" with a 19, 26 and whatever else I obtain so the muscle memory will be as close as possible. It's just an expensive and time consuming mistake (30 +1/2 day DROS wait period, Add-A-Gun cost, ammendment appointment, etc.) I want to get the Sigs off because like an idiot I put two SCE guns on my CCW. thanks for the contribution of knowledge. Are you saying to just shoot, take the bite like a man, and deal with it? I've seen some lovely pix of bloody hands and really don't want to be out of the game to recover from every time I train.

just put the 19 slide on your 34 frame and see how it works out. The 34 is the same frame as the 17.

Why do you want a long grip but a short slide? It is easier to conceal a longer slide than a longer grip. If I want a longer grip I would just stick with a full length slide. It seems like a 19 slide with a full size grip gives you all the negatives of concealing a full size handgun with none of the benefits

DO NOT put the 19 slide on the 17 frame. IT WILL LOCK UP!!!

Thanks for the heads up... like previously stated, I'm a new budding addict to this and wanted to prevent and incident such this. Thanks for the great input!!!

I utilize a T Rex Arms holster which offers an item called a raptor clip that basically solves any issue with a full size grip (for me and my body type). With all do respect, my issue of comfort/conceal-ability lies moreso with the slide length instead of the grip butO see your point where grip height could be an area of concern. I'm probably done with weapon lights for this reason .

10k through my 19 now and I've never had slide bite. And I get up as high as possible on the grip. The webbing in between my index finger and thumb is all callused, but that's it.

Check out the fns-9. Glock 19 slide length, Glock 17 grip length, and a beaver tail. It's not a Glock, but it's an excellent pistol.
