    .22 Pellet Flyers

    First time using pellet rifle.
Picked up a Crosman 362 100yr had them on sale and figured why not.
Shooting around 35yds get good center but have crazy flyers.
All seem to be left and happen 30-40% of the time.
Shot 50rds to break in but wonder if flyers are just normal for cheaper pump rifles.
Using JSB 14.3g Exact Jumbo Express Diablo..cost as much as cheap .22LR
Will try other ammo and see what it likes.
It seems to like this stuff if I could get rid of the flyers.
    Any ideas????
Just the nature of cheap pump air rifle?

    Thanks.

Just like with any centerfire and rimfire rifle, you have to try a whole bunch of different brands and weights of pellets to find out what your pellet rifle likes to eat best. Every gun is different, so it's up to you to experiment. No one online can figure out what your gun likes except you. You can narrow it down a bit by reading reviews on your rifle. Sometimes the reviewers will disclose which pellets worked best for them. But their experience might not hold true for your individual gun.

      Keep trying different pellets.
Maybe your gun likes the expensive stuff, maybe it doesn't.

What seems to work well for several rifles we shoot (Gamos, Benjamin NPs, Beemans) are the Crosman Premiers.

I had a tin of older Gamo pellets that I started out with one day, instead of the Premiers.
I thought I had forgotten how to shoot or something was wrong with me.
Patterns were like a shotgun, no matter how careful I was with each shot.
Frustrated, I took a break, then decided to try the Premiers for a couple shots before I called it a day.
Suddenly I could shoot straight again and life was good once more.

There are sampler packs of different kinds of pellets from various makers, I would grab a couple samplers and see what works best for you.

the exact jumbo (15.89 gr) is the most consistent for me (and many others).
the fx airguns 15.89 gr are made by jsb, so basically the same.
        never tried the express...
air arms diabolo field are also good. h&n baracuda 18 was decent as well.

do you inspect the skirts or the entire pellets before loading them? it isn't uncommon to have bent skirts.

Measure the head diameter on your pellets to see if there are two diameter clusters, perhaps 0.001" apart. Yes, try other pellet brands; specifically Crosman.

If other pellets act the same way, try it with open sights - or another scope that works on other airguns, or firearms. That scope might have a floating reticle. Also, I am guessing that scope has fixed parallax and it is not for 35 yards? So, you could be generating a split POI via a variation in cheekweld.

You should also shoot over a chrony to see if the velocity varies, although one would expect a vertical shift from that. Still, barrel harmonics can cause a left/right shift. Are you sure that you are counting pump strokes accurately?

            Will try different pellets first.
The scope is also a cheap 4-16 X 40 AO
Have it on 8 and pumped 6 times.
Will pay closer attention next time.

            Thanks for all input.

Did buy other pellets to try out.
What Walmart had in stock so not a great variety.
Did notice the Gamo grinding into the barrel.
The Exact went in very smoothly with slight resistance.
Did not notice any real "feel" on the Crosman.
Wonder if different runs have different tolerances so one batch shoots better than another.

Keeping this for less than 25yd gopher getter.
              The coin is 1"
              10rds using my "stand"

Thinking about making a shooting stand.

              Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.
Installed another scope and those crazy flyers are gone.
              Thanks.

Diesel your rounds. (WD-40 behind the pellet).
