Has anyone gone through the online app for this yet? I went through it but saw that it required me to schedule an appointment. But it only gives times for the next few weeks. I wasn't sure if that was correct since I thought I needed time to go through the mandatory training.

Just wondering if anyone has gone through this new process to renew and can share what to expect.
I just went through it. Do the online app and schedule the appointment at the end. The appt is for the 8 hour class which includes requalification. The 180 days thing is fairly new. Mine said 90 days.

Thanks for the reply. That appointment is separate from the training class that you need to take from an approved vendor, correct?

Has anyone else applied for the initial ccw before the new app process? I applied in October of last year. They emailed me asking for a reachable phone number back in January, I responded same day. I emailed again last week and the response was that I will either get a phone call or a denial letter. Going on 7 months since initial app.

Ahh, I see. Yes, they now have a list of approved vendors. The cheapest one was $150.

Sounds like the best option is to take it with the Sheriff's Department.

I emailed SBCSD and got this reply:

You will need to do your renewal 90 days from your expiration. So, this can give you time to get your new firearm. And on the website, there should be a list of vendors to do your qualification. We are working on the website it is 3 months before your permit expires when you can renew.

So, it looks like the 180 days on the website is incorrect. I have some time before I can start the process.

Your initial app was Oct 2023 but when was your in-person interview?

I had my interview in November and just got the call to schedule the class and range time. Six months is about what I've been seeing for others as well.

Has anyone attended the safety class recently and can comment on whether they allowed changes to your guns on the day of?

Initial app was Oct 2023. No call for an interview yet, no denial letter in the mail, nothing. They did receive my app because they did email me asking for a phone number.

I am tempted to submit a new app thru the new process but I don't want to start over if they are actually working with my initial app.

                  Thanks for the reply

Wasn't there an option to schedule the interview at the end of the initial app? That's how it was an I applied. I also remember instructions after completing everything to call them if there was an issue with the scheduling.

It kind of sounds like they were under the impression you were checking your app status AFTER you had your interview when you reached out to them.

                    ETA:

yep, this was the message displayed after I completed the initial app online:

"Thank you for submitting your application.

You will receive a confirmation email with your scheduled appointment date and time.

Please refer to the CCW website to obtain the instructions and necessary forms.

Please contact the Employee Resources Division if you have any questions or if you have not received a confirmation email within one week of applying.

                    Phone: (909) 387-3750
                    Email: ccwinfo@sbcsd.org"

Hmm. I applied with a paper app that I sent to them as a pdf. About 15 minutes after I emailed them the pdf, I received this email from them.

"We are currently accepting but not processing new applications for the rest of year, but we will notify you when you can start the interview process. The CCW Unit is transitioning to a new program which will make the CCW process easier for all new applicants. With the information that you have provided in your application, we will send you an email when you can start the CCW process."

I think I will just call them. Not sure what else to do other then just wait.

I recently took the renewal course for my license. I was told that I was good to carry because I would receive my new card before my expiration date. I have not received my new license and it is 6 day past. I was told the renewal starts on the expiration date but after looking back, my actual qualification date is today so the date on my card has been wrong this whole time. Request tracker says they are still working on it. Should I shoot them an email or keep checking the mailbox?

Once your current ID expired you can no longer carry. Not sure what you mean by the date being wrong this whole time.

The date that I originally qualified is not the date on my permit. I am still waiting for my renewal though. It has been six weeks since my renewal class.
