This is my first post to the site as I just registered this morning. I have a question regarding my upcoming appointment and hopefully someone can give me some guidance.
I requested an appointment back in march and was given a date of August 29. Last week OCSD emailed me saying my appointment was moved up to August 9. (Sweet!)
Now my question is this: is it a waste of time for me to try and obtain my CCW now that OCSD has stepped back from basically giving them away? I asked about the process on Reddit, in retrospect not the best place to seek advice on this matter. One of the replies I got back told me basically I have no hope unless I am in imminent danger. However, I am a registered Uber driver, but have yet actually start driving. Does anyone think that this would be sufficient good cause? Thank you all for any input you can give me and if this is not the proper place to pose this query, please excuse my ignorance. I look forward to hearing from anyone willing to give me their two cents.
    First, welcome to calguns!

Obtaining a CCW permit for uber driving is obviously not a valid good cause. However there may be other reasons that may qualify you. Come over to the good cause statement thread and discuss your situation, there may some other things to explore.

      Uber Firearms Prohibition Policy

Our goal is to ensure that everyone has a safe and reliable ride. That's why Uber prohibits riders and drivers from carrying firearms of any kind in a vehicle while using our app.

Anyone who violates this policy may lose access to Uber.

Congrats! I picked up mine today as well. It took exactly 6 months and 10 days from start to finish. As I said before, I had everything done by the time my interview came up on 05/24/2016. So, it takes about 2 months after your interview if you do everything ahead of time.

I have sent a few documents (training cert) via email only to have them at a later point request the docs I had already sent.
Not sure if the server gets busy and emails get bumped or if it's better to only send documents when requested. Either way, just make sure you get the Thank you confirmation. I have only emailed a couple of times but they are very responsive.

                OC CCW renewals

In the last approximately two years, CCWs were issued by OC Sherriff with a "good cause" statement of "Personal Protection" based on the San Diego Peralta decision that Personal Protection was adequate. Approximately 7500 CCWs were issued with Personal Protection. The Peralta decision has been withdrawn awaiting a full panel review. No CCWs or renewals based solely on your original statement of good cause being self protection are being issued or renewed.

The long-standing reasons to not issue CCWs are now back in force. I am sure they can be found on the OCSD website.

Most of the current holders will not be able to provide the required paperwork without asking others to perform perjury or counterfeiting.

Unless some one comes up with a green string there is no way your CCW will be issued or renewed base on personal protection only.

Are you making some kind of declaration? Or just voicing your opinion? Or perception?

AFAIK they are issuing if you can articulate a valid reason to carry. I think most can do that given the current state of things in OC.

Come on over to the GCS thread and we can discuss ways to articulate. It's not perjury if you can open your eyes to what's going on around you. What and where is the danger in your life?

OCSD is still a pro CCW department if you can articulate reasonable good cause.
What is reasonable good cause? That's as individual as fingerprints and not something anyone should talk about on a public forum.

Why not? We have a whole thread on it.
There's nothing wrong with getting pointers on how to articulate your good cause.

                        This.

The old way of thinking used to be not to share your GC because if OCSD saw multiples of the same one they'd cry foul. However, if something works for one person there's no reason why it shouldn't work for another.

                          Sounds reasonable to me!
I was always under the impression that you should not discuss your GC for that very reason. But what WTH do I know.

We've found not everyone is so good at getting their thoughts and concerns down into a cohesive statement. Or they focus on the wrong things or for the wrong reasons. I got a lot of help with mine, made a huge difference.

Frankly I didn't think I had a valid reason, and I almost bailed because they started requiring them again a month before my interview. A lot of applicants no-showed. As it turned out, there were several very valid reasons for me to carry. I just needed help fleshing them out in written form. A few members were very helpful, and I've helped a bunch of others subsequently.

My son in law is a firearms trainer and former LEO. He's very knowledgeable about the entire subject of firearms for protection/self defense.

Funny you should say that. I was one of those people. I actually missed my first appointment due to the anxiety of having to deal with this very thing. I rescheduled a new appointment, went in and the interviewing officer helped me flush out my reasons for my GC. This is what prompted my first response.
