If you can articulate anything other than "self-defense", you should be good to go.

What you have so far is a good start, just have a couple of back-ups just in case your interviewing officer feels like it may not pass.

But honestly, they're not looking for reasons to deny you, you have to give them a reason to.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I just applied on-line today for my initial appointment. When are appointments scheduled out to now? April, May, June 2016?

I've been trying to schedule my initial interview appt. I got no response from their on-line appt request nor from my email.
I tried calling them today on the phone, and they responded they only accept on-line requests (they said to try again on-line).

                Anybody else have this problem?

If that's what they told you, I guess you need to try again...they're probably backed up do to the holiday.

If anyone is interested, this is my timeline...
06/20/15 - Submitted online appointment request.
                    06/22/15 - Received 1st appointment date of 11/20/15.
07/30/15 - Received Rescheduled appointment date of 09/28/15.
09/28/15 - Submitted completed application. Was told my Good Cause Statement was "too detailed" and asked to email a revised statement.
                    09/28/15 - Completed Live Scan.
10/01/15 - Residence Check. Mom and Brother was at home and was just asked if I lived there.
12/30/15 - Received conditional approval, requiring training cert. The letter was actually dated 12/01/15.
12/30/15 - Contacted Greg Block to sign up for class. $230.00
01/05/16 - Attended 1st portion of class and qualified 2 guns.
01/12/16 - Attended 2nd lass and completed certification.
01/12/16 - Emailed and faxed certification to OCSD.
01/14/16 - Received email from OCSD for final appointment on 01/21/16 which was rescheduled to 01/22/16 because I would be on a business trip.
01/22/16 - Brought original hard copy of the certification and a check for $102.22. Was given back the original certificate. Signed some documents with thumb print. Then, given the actual CCW license. Appointment was at 8am. Arrived at 7:50am. Brought up to the office at 8am. Finished by 8:15am. Drove home, grabbed M&P 9c with Incog holster and inserted Appendix. Went to a few appointments which required me to move around and have my photo taken and no one noticed me carrying. Felt great! Now I just need to go watch a movie at a theater...

All in all, the process was fairly easy and painless; aside from the 6 month wait. My Good Cause statement was accepted, but I am unsure if it will still be acceptable in 2 years for my renewal. I was a victim of a crime/assault and provided police reports which occurred 2 years ago. By renewal, the incident would be 4 years old, so it might not be accepted unless more bad things happen to me or family.

Now relax, and know that you are the only one who knows you are carrying.

As long as you make a reasonable effort to conceal, no one will even suspect.

Resist the urge to inform every family member and friend of your new found option.

Unless they need to know, concealed is concealed etc....

First of all congratulations. Be low key as GlockN'Roll suggests. Regarding your renewal. I don't see why your good cause wouldn't be accepted 2 years from now...whatever it was, short of 'self defense' (which they don't consider)it must have worked. I was ok'd during the Peralta self defense float zone. Ok'd because my reason WAS self defense..and that was good enough...until 4/25/15. Since you got your CCW after, keep to your story. Now, when it comes time for me to renew, I may run into a few problems because the 'self defense' (God forbid we actually want to PROTECT ourselves right??) rule may not apply. But, being that I'm 66 years old and I'm tool told to fight and slow to run (but, my shooting is quite accurate and my judgement is sharp), they might give me a break here. That remains to be seen.

Are the California DOJ and FBI background checks supposed to take close to 12 weeks? Both are coming back as IN PROGRESS when I call the DOJ Automated Line.

Mine's going on about 14+ weeks so far. Glad to see I'm not the only one having to wait this long.

Gavin Newsom is a lying, cheating slickster and will be is the worst mistake California has ever made if he gets now that he has been elected Governor. Hollywood movie producers look to him and his oleaginous persona as a model for the corrupt "bad guy" politician character. This guy is so greasy, he could lubricate an entire arsenal of AR-15s just by breathing on them.

Is anyone else having issues getting an initial appointment? I've requested three times now. Each about 1 month apart and have never heard back. I used two different emails just in case but still nothing. Kinda lame.
